because he will be able to combine his length and size with his lateral quickness that he already possesses?
Once he gains that 30lbs you mentioned, no chance he can check quick point guards efficiently on a regular basis.

Let's wait until we see Simmons combine workouts before we crown Ingram

I've got a feeling they'll be very, very impressive.

On another note, there is a guy in this thread (Eye of Elderick?) who thinks Simmons is a liability at #1 when the exact opposite is true. He is, by far, the safest pick in the draft. You can point to his disappearing act and lack of a jump shot all you want, but he still managed to put up over 19 ppg. Without a doubt he can step into an NBA line up and consistently make the best play for his team. If the biggest flaw in a guy is that he isn't selfish enough, I've got to think an NBA coach and staff can fix that.

You can legitimately gripe that Simmons didn't appear to want it this year, but wouldn't that imply that he will be even better and more focused in the NBA? Hell, even if I concede that he mailed it in at LSU this year, he still managed to lead the team in points, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks. If only my half-arse efforts were as good at work.

I wouldn't want to draft a player that ever half assed it. Simmons is the most talented player in the draft but I don't know if he has the mental edge to be a perennial all star

Exactly

My favorite thing about the Rant crew that slams Ben is they think that he is BOTH lazy/unmotivated/uncaring AND not super talented/overhyped. Which makes no sense to me. The one thing not in doubt is that he had one of the most impressive statistical seasons in freshman history. So if he truly didn’t care or try, he must be insanely talented to put up those numbers. On the other hand, if his talent is overhyped, he must have busted his arse off to put up those numbers. You can’t have your cake and eat too. I’m sure they would just chalk it up to “empty stats” or some nonsense, but logically it doesn’t make sense. Which I guess is par for the course on the Rant.

The funny thing is, it's a bunch of 40-something year olds angrily tearing down a 19 year old for being lazy and unmotivated while the majority of them are probably reading threads and making those posts...from work.

For the record, general consensus here among the NBA folks is Ingram will be the No. 1 pick in June, fwiw

Purple and gold to purple and gold. He doesn't really fit L.A.'s personnel, but I'd love to see him get picked by the Lakers. He's getting a lot of hate recently, but let's be real: the dude can play and will be a really good NBA player

Agree that he could be really good but imo Ingram will be the vastly superior pro player and is a much much better fit for what the Lakers have now.
