if Simmons is Lamar Odom then Ingram is Rudy Gay. Unless the 76ers get the pick I would be stunned if Ingram went #1

i think the lakers would pick ingram due to fit. if the sixers take ingram at 1, the lakers would take simmons at 2 and would have to figure out what we're doing with julius randle

Why? Ingram fits better with some of the other teams at the top of the lottery.

On the 76ers, they are desperate for some playmaking on their roster and will be more willing to build around a guy like Simmons, unlike some other franchises.

eta: BTW WCA I think Ingram was at 1 in their last mock. DX is working with the Vertical and released a mock with Ingram at 1 a week or two ago. I think Sam Vecenie has Ingram at 1 now too.

so does kevin oconnor who also does the basketball stuff for sbnation as well as DX. really just waiting on draftnet before i think we can call ingram that clear favorite to go #1 but its really starting to swing that way

Would be the best thing to ever happen to Simmons if someone passed on him as the No. 1 pick.

As a fellow Laker fan, I think Ingram is a better fit on the team than Simmons. It just seems like Simmons needs the ball as a play initiator which we already have in D Lo/Clarkson. Ingram is that perfect swing man who is becoming a dying breed in the league right now. I would love him to fill that frame up more, which can happen.

I dont see this being a possibility unless simmons is showing some faults in his attitude.

Russillo was saying last week that with all of the media fuss he reached out to all of his NBA contacts and said he has yet to talk to a single front office that has Simmons anywhere other than #1. He said most of them replied that it was just a media firestorm and that NBA guys are sticking with Simmons.

No fricking way will it happen. Seriously. He may be #1 on internet draft boards, but he won't go #1.

From 20 hours ago:

Have any of them moved Duke's Brandon Ingram ahead of Simmons?

Chad Ford: Not really, and I spoke with a number of general managers for teams projected to be in the lottery.

I chose GMs instead of scouts because in most cases the GM is the final decision-maker. Most GMs by now have a very good handle on the top prospects.

Most of them acknowledged that they had concerns about Simmons. They had a lot of questions. He is no longer the lock that he was in say, November or December.

But I couldn't get any of them to go so far as to say that they have replaced Simmons as the No. 1 player on the board. The closest I got? "Too early to tell" from one GM, and "Hung jury inside our group" from another.

A couple were adamant that Simmons was the only player in this draft who was worthy of the No. 1 pick.

"Sure, I've been disappointed," one said. "We have some concerns about him. But if it's not Simmons, who is it? I don't feel like there's a strong No. 2 option in this draft. There's no obvious guy that is clearly ahead of him."

I knew this was coming. When you watch a guy like Ingram with ridiculous athleticism combined with his ability to shoot, it's not hard to fathom someone would prefer him over Simmons. We see this every year when teams make NCAA tourney runs. Ingram is making his case. Regardless of who you like better, this is a real debate. And as I've said before, if Philly gets the first pick, it's probably a good thing for Simmons that he doesn't go #1.
