The zydeco is a stupid fricking name for a Baton Rouge based team. They say in the video they “wanted to keep everything BR” so they should’ve went with one of the following team names:
The fighting traffic
The gunshots
The chain restaurants
The fighting gravy chambers
All better options IMO JMO

I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I was when they selected Zydeco over Kingfish. I still have a blue and silver Kingfish jersey from back in the day, and I’ll still wear it to games.
But, in all seriousness, we should be able to admit that we, collectively as a community, are about as “south Louisianan” as Alexandria, Monroe or Shreveport. We aren’t Lafayette, New Orleans, Thibodaux, Houma…we may have a little more culture than north Louisiana strictly due to LSU and the Capitol, but be real. Other than Live after 5 when they bus in someone from Lafayette, where the hell are you going to listen to zydeco music?

Kingfish was never an option because the ECHL still owns that name.
I don’t like the name Zydeco either. And I love the Kingfish. But that name is never coming back.
At least the team responded to the logo criticism and changed it. That’s the first thing they’ve done that I like so far. Maybe they can do something else positive. Maybe…

The bridge was the only part of the logo that actually related to Baton Rouge. Zydeco sure as hell doesn’t.
