Thank you for sharing SMASH. I remember a lot of your favorites that you listed in the 1990's. I did not watch last year's Olympic boxing competition.

Going to make an effort to refollow the sport. Unfortunately , my stepfather passed away so we can't share those times again.

Yeah but he's still just a little too young. In two to three years heck ya he's gonna be the face of boxing. Right now Canelo and GGG are the face of boxing though.

Mayweather killed boxing. His style made it uninteresting yet profitable for himself
A lot of boxing snobs won't want to admit this, but the Mayweather vs Pacquaio fight probably did more damage to boxing in the US than anything else in decades.

Without a doubt it did and it sucks because boxing is better than this year than it has been in at least 5-10 years.

watch some lomachenko fights. the guy is absolutely incredible. his amateur record for 396-1. he's 8-1 professionally, with his only loss coming to orlando salido in his second fight. he's gotten exponentially better with each fight since.

It is what was/is wrong with the business model of boxing. They should have fought 5 years before, but Mayweather had all the leverage and pushed the fight off for years until Pac was past his prime. The we get an over hyped dud of a fight.

Hopefully they are learning to put good fights together now that they have competition from UFC. People will watch boxing if you put good fighters against each other in their primes.

This is just blatantly false. GGG/Alvarez would do huge numbers. The Ward/Krusher fight did big numbers last time and will again in June.

Sadly, Manny/Floyd would do big numbers again. Not as much as the first time but still big.

When Wilder fights Joshua, that fight will do good numbers.

Loma/Garcia would do big numbers.

Sorry baw, but you're wrong.

The sport has changed so much. It's more about protecting ones record than putting on a good show. The quality of trainers has decreased a ton recently. ( I worked with mayweathers trainer Nate Jones and someone who beat James toney and Roy Jones jr) so I feel like I can speak on that subject.

Roy Jones was fun to watch and beyond marketable now everyone wants to be like Floyd

boxing is done. The biggest fight going right now is a fight between a ufc fighter and a retired fighter.

GGG is a star to me. Meaning, I'll pay to see his fights or go to a bar to watch them.

GGG and Canelo won't happen. It would of happened by now. I agree that would be the biggest fight out there. Pac Man isn't that popular a draw anymore because he's on the way out.

I think that's true for American fighters. This cynical business model of openly gloating while ripping off fight fans that Floyd Mayweather perfected sucked the fun out of American boxing. But the sport is thriving in Europe, as Wlad-AJ proved.

British boxing writers have quadruple the social media following that their American counterparts do. British fans travel the world to support their guys. Because British fighters have this honor bound culture of taking on the toughest fights and giving the fans a show. Amir Khan had been shamed over there for behaving like an American and not taking on the dangerous Kel Brook while instead chasing a payday with Pacquiao, who hasn't knocked anyone out in almost a decade.Their boxing still has heart.

Same can be said for this up-and-coming batch of Eastern European fighters, especially Ukraine. Same with Mexican fighters (besides Canelo, who is too valuable for Goldenboy to risk). Have you seen Mexican or European boxing crowds? It's incredible! None of the boring photo-op bullshite bored arse selfie crowd we saw at Mayweather-Pac.

Boxing is alive and well. It will always be compelling because it produces the most compelling matchups between athletes of any sport. It can be so aesthetically pleasing. And it always produces fascinating characters.

I think a Joshua/Wilder fight would do better than most expect. They would be able to market the shite out of that fight.

Kind of unrelated, my favorite fight coming up is Spence/Brook.

If they market Loma correctly, he can easily be the next Pacman. Dude is just phenomenal with his combination of speed/skill.

Huge fan of Loma. And I thought he beat Salido even though the judges disagreed. Those body shots that were supposedly crushing Loma's body weren't even landing.

They way he schooled and clowned Gary Russell Jr. was glorious.

And Sosa too. He was pretending like he was a matador after Sosa inexplicably talked shite.

He'll be tough to market to Americans though until he gets comfortable-ish with English.
