“Buhuhuh bowl games are meaningless”

Shut the frick up, every game is meaningless

“But why risk injury”

Ok. Why play any games? Just let kids have a rolling draft projection and they can opt out once they get one they’re happy with.

Create a damn farm league and quit ruining college football. As it stands, southerners who don’t otherwise give a frick about the NFL indirectly subsidize its player development.

Sorry Jayden Daniels is sitting out. If it makes you feel better, Wisconsin sucks and you'll still beat us.

Bowl games are stupid and a waste of time. A vestige of an era long since past.

And you think opt outs and the portal are "ruining college football"? Your idea would quickly hasten its death.

It is fine as long as it stops with meaningless bowl games and doesn't spread to regular season

I'm sure if/when a player has a career ending injury, they'll be glad they have your respect instead of millions and millions of dollars. I know I couldn't put a price on what you thought of me....

It does, so thank you for that and the cheese.

You do realize a player can opt out at any time right?

As of right now.

However, I feel like there is a time coming where collective bargaining will be a thing and these players will sign scholarships that will have certain stipulations in them. Hopefully the schools are able to force them to play on pain of losing their scholarship and paying back the money they received from the university/conference.

I at least understand the OPs frustration.

As a fan, I’d love to see Daniels play. I’d love to see all the teams matchup at full strength.

The trend of opting out is detrimental to college football, as is the trend of entering the transfer portal and simply quitting on
your teammates.

I don’t blame the players, because that’s the situation which has been created for them.

Jamarr Chase literally opted out of his Junior season to prepare for the draft.

Pretty much. When 5-7 teams are making bowl games and 6-6 G5 teams are making them, these things have been devalued so much due to oversaturation and the playoffs coexisting with them. It used to be simply making a bowl at all was a big deal and wasn't just handed out to any team that gets 6 wins (often including one against an FCS team).

That said, it isn't a waste of time, coaches love those 15 extra practices they get before the season is over. Especially when you know guys are leaving it's good to get those extra reps for the guys that are replacing them the year after. In the case of Daniels opting out, Nuss having those 15 practices as the undisputed #1 guy and an actual start under his belt is nice to have before next year especially since we open against USC which isn't exactly an ideal warmup game.

It’s moronic to defend bowl-game opt outs.

It’s all “meaningless”. I’d have to look up who won the NC in 1995.

The point is to play the game and somehow it’s become acceptable to quit on your team for the last game of the season.

It could possibly be somewhat rational before NIL existed but that dog won’t hunt now. Youre getting paid, do your job.

There are about 10 bowl games where i would be pissed if a player sat out of. The rest of them i would much rather use them as a way to start getting younger players ready for the next season.

Nuss is going to get 3 weeks of 1st team reps and will get the chance to go through game prep as a starter. That is much more beneficial to the team than seeing Jayden run up and down the field a few more times.

I’m sure the fact they had a career-ending injury just so you can have a chance at seeing your coach lift a shitty plastic trophy will be great consolation.

Correct, bowl games are just an extra set of practices and a scrimmage game with a swag bag thrown in for the players.

We've just got to accept that non-playoff bowl games are the beginning of next season, rather than the end of this one.
