Bon Costas and his stupid OT rant on SNF

He is calling for fairness that the Patriots should have gotten a chance when they botched the OT coin toss. He suggests that both teams should get the ball even if a TD is scored on the first OT possession. frick that. New England made a mistake and it cost them. Would he use this platform to broach this topic had this happened to SF v Det or NO v Jax? What a clown!
Just adopt the CFB rules while your at it, Bob.
He's a Belichick apologist!

Are you suggesting that he is a New England Patriots fan?

He might be! His gun control speech was better. :sarcasm:

Used to be straight up sudden death. The NFL got butthurt over their golden boys losing on overtime field goals. Now that's not good enough either.
If Costa's gets his rule change, in a few years he'll cry because one team had two overtime possessions and the other team only had one.

He's right IMO, sudden death should start with the 2nd possession in OT, no matter what.

Costas is a wart on the genitals of this country. Not that he knows what that means because he has no genitals.
Wait he does know what it means because he schlobs on Obama's knob all the time.

You don't see a problem with the current NFL OT rule? Not saying they should adopt the CFB rule, but it's definitely a flawed rule.
Either make it first score wins, regardless what it is, or allow both teams to get a possession. Or make it a 8 or 10minute quarter and you play til the clock hits 0.
And I'm not even talking about the Pats game, couldn't care less about it. But the OT rule is def flawed.

He's trying to steal my idea. Well, almost.

Bob Costas sure does rustle the MSB's jimmies.

I don't have a problem with the NFL's OT rules. I think they get it 'right,' to the extent that any OT system can be right, as they're all arbitrary.
College's OT system is incredibly fun and I love it, but it's a sham of football.
The NFL system is much more true to the game itself, and I don't really have much of a problem with a team not getting the ball if they give up a TD on the opening drive. That's the worst thing any team can do in football, so you don't get a shot? Fine.
My problem with Costas was him taking some tired OT take instead of rightly calling Belichick a moron.

If it's not fair for 1 possession vs 0 possession, why is it fair to do 2 possessions vs 1 possession for the other team?

This.
I hate sudden death OTs in general, but if you're gonna do it, let it happen after both teams have had a chance to possess the ball.
College OT is better. Although I'd rather they start the OT possessions for the 40 or 45.

I personally would say a hybrid of what the nfl and college has now. Turn the clock off and kickoff. Play an even number of possessions regardless of how long it takes, and only have 2 point conversions. After both teams have a possession, highest score wins. If tied, play on (kickoff, punt, etc. just keep playing the game.)
But what the hell do I know?

I completely get what you're saying and all that.
But let's say the games a shootout and it's 35-35. Neither D is stopping anyone and both teams are scoring at will. The team that wins te coin toss wins the game and the other team shouldn't get a chance? Despite both D not being able to stop either offense.
The coin toss decides the game? Something's wrong with that.
But I do get where you're coming from.
