And that's fine. They don't need the US to make money. They've made huge bank in Germany.

You ever notice how when anyone from boxing is questioned regarding MMA in any capacity the response is always negative and belittling? Why are these guys so scared of MMA, what's got then so defensive?

I'm 47, and miss those days too. I remember ABC's Wide World of Sports would regularly air title fights on Saturdays (obviously, this was in the days before PPV and before HBO was everywhere). There were also only two sanctioning bodies--WBC and WBA--not 37 different titles.

I will always remember the fights that originated from inside Rahway State Prison in New Jersey featuring James Scott and Dwight Braxton.

MMA's ratings are already declining and PPV sales keep going downhill. That sport will NEVER overtake boxing.

Meanwhile, a heavyweight fight between Klitschko (who Americans don't care for) and Bryant Jennings (a dude with 19 career fights) sold out MSG last weekend and was the most watched fight on cable in 3 years.

2 step plan for boxing to be relevant.

1. Make HW division matter again.

2. The best fighters fight each other. PERIOD.

If they do not fight, they vacate their title.

Add one - condense some of these belts down. Hard to keep up with who is which promotions champion in varying weight classes.

I barely watch anything related to boxing anymore and hardly ever watch a UFC fight, but I can list a whole host of names there in comparison to boxing.

I'm 53, and I remember when there were only 8 weight classes. You could keep up with things easily.

I think MMA is already more popular. Last night was an anomaly - a fight that has been a decade in the making. I do not think it will happen again.

This is what I miss about boxing. Go to the 44 minute mark. LINK I highly doubt we ever see excitement and a moment like that in boxing ever again.

That is what made boxing special and what it was all about, but I don't think it is ever coming back.

Yes, because it's so much more exciting to watch boxer clinch every time a combo is thrown only to have the referee have to reset. In the MMA, Mayweather would get launched for trying to clinch everytime a punch is thrown.

MMA is much more watchable than boxing because the fighters know how to do so much more than throw a punch.
