Not in favor of state bailouts but the state spends a lot of money on some really wasteful projects like whitewater parks and such, so not offering a loan (which was earmarked for this very situation) was silly.
One bad decision doesn't necessitate logical support for others.
I'd also add that setting precedent in higher education would've been terrible: Alabama has way too many higher education institutes for a state of its size as it is, and this won't be the last (just the most severely mismanaged that doesn't have ample public backing).

Intentionally dragging out the process so they were left with alternative was a shite move too.
Don't disagree with that.

Ok so here it is.
I just got off the phone with the AD she had just gotten to Ohio. She said the ncaa has this portion covered. She has a call with the president later today. She did not let on that anyone was helping yet.
She is about to create something like a go fund me I will update on this.
They have a camera crew following them and she is going to ride this story.
They win today and it will really catch some steam.
She sounds hot also. No pics.

Nicely written story on their website. Hopefully someone buys this nice historic campus soon before it begins to deteriorate.
Alabama A&M is already in the process of buying it. They will have this satellite campus as well as their main campus in Normal, AL (Huntsville).
Surprise Auburn didn't put in a bid honestly. But I get they are more focused on Huntsville/Research Park

From what I read, A&M buying it is far from a done deal. They need financial assistance (state funding, cough, cough) to complete the purchase.

Sad ending for the school but it should make for a decent inspirational Disney sports movie in 10-15 years.
If it's Disney, it will be a school for POC and AlphabetMafia who triumphed over Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil religious bigots.
As a side bar to this, Cabrini College in Philadelphia is closing its doors this month as well. The campus has already been sold to Villanova. Their men's lacrosse team made the NCAAs. They were trounced like 24-6 on the road. The winning team made a guard of honor for them and all their fans applauded Cabrini off the field. Touching and classy.
Hope BSC does well the rest of the tournament.

BSC up 6-1 in the 4th.
Update. 10-1 victory their pitcher suffered the first lose of the year. BSC pitcher went 9. 120 pitches. Wow

It wasn't silly when the collateral didn't match the loan. That was the issue.

Louisiana says hold my beer. Way too many 4-years for Louisiana to support. Unfortunately, any serious attempt to close any of them and consolidate would be a blood bath politically.

Where does the endowment go when a school folds?
Will campus just fall in? Turn into a jungle?

The AD literally had no idea when I talked to her. Said she was talking to the college president today. NCAA has covered this trip.

Doesn’t ncaa normally pay for the trips for any post season?

That is too bad.

Please tell me your extensive knowledge of the state of Alabama and its colleges please.

I think closing one of the smaller ones at a time (except for the HBCUs) is doable now with our supermajorities… we’ve shut down high schools in a bunch of different parishes and life went on
we can start with the Louisiana schools in the Southland… make Southeastern and Nicholls UNO-Hammond and UNO-Thibodaux respectively. Have a plan to relocate some programs to the Lakefront…
