meh

the playoff has ruined CFB for me more than anything.

Conference Championships mean nothing now after 80-85 years of being worthy. That stupid fricking committee and their ridiculous rankings have just sucked every ounce of fun out of the sport

I've been around college athletics and I heard a coach tell a player that to stay eligible just show up to class and don't be a disturbance. I know a guy that signed a football and hung out with the professor and her kids. If a guy can't stay eligible or is close to being ineligible it is because he missed months of class. Every college has made very low level courses to keep these guys eligible.

Just another coach at a nobody school that would never have a shot anyway ranting.

He never had a problem with college football "selling out" when he was coaching Fiesta Bowls and playing for conference titles, did he? Reminds me so much of Mangino whining about the BCS when they choked against Texas when Vince Young was there.

this ... plenty of DIII schools at tiny little liberal arts colleges would love to have someone of his expertise coaching their team ... but they don't pay that much, so there's that ...

You don't know what you're talking about.

D3 athletic programs are 100% recreational with no scholarships, boosters, or any of the other nonsense that comes with D1 athletics. They actually remember the novel idea that school comes before football.

They don't care about getting a coach to win football games.

“Virtually, I think there are one or two nights we don’t play college football and when you think about a team picking up and traveling, if we have to go halfway across the country and play Thursday night, for instance, you miss Wednesday classes, you miss Thursday classes you probably miss — if they schedule you as a night game, which is what’s going to happen on Thursdays, then you’re going to miss all or a vast majority of Friday classes, and we don’t think anything about that because it brings in money.

It's so funny to think not to long ago, there were like 4 games on TV and only on a Saturday.

Now as Synder said, it's almost every other night to saturate the market and make as much money as possible.

I'm surprised ESPN doesn't demand they play Monday to Saturday.

“We’ve sold out to TV, and if I were in the TV market or in that field I’m sure we’d want to promote all that we could for our TV business, but you think about games being played for money, that’s the intent of it, you play for money, so we’re playing games on — you pick the night of the week.

The "sellout" concept is the dictionary definition of what CFB has done with respect to television. TV has so much power now that you can't tell them no to ANYTHING. Schools are virtually powerless to determine when their own games can begin

It wouldn't be so bad if, for example, each team was allowed to "protect" one starting time a year within one hour. For example, if LSU wanted to REALLY play Arkansas at night for whatever reason, ESPN came around and said "no, you're playing at 11," they should be allowed one "frick you, were not moving it, keep your money." I don't think one provision like this to be used once a year would bankrupt the networks.

How much does that cost the NFL? It's a free semi pro league.
