How will it cost him? He's freerolling. If NE wins it all, he'll get 600, pay his coworker 500, and end up with 100. His coworker might pay for lunch now that he's won 500.

So if he wins he walks away with 1k...essentially playing even odds on a ridiculous bet.
Why doesn't he just go through a sportsbook where betting 500 will make him ~400% on his money? He's either an idiot or a multi millionaire.

ETA: and you'd be an even bigger dummy if you didn't take the field on even odds!
