I feel like Lewis had 2 or 3 years where he was unreal.. His longevity is very impressive and I think that mainly came from his heart and desire to be the best lb ever.
But ever since Willis was in college, anytime my team played against him I didn't have a very good feeling about beating him.. He seemed like he was everywhere!

He was absolute garbage when they won the second ring. That's like giving Mark Madsen credit for Lakers rings.

Don't disagree his play wasn't good on the field that second year, but I also don't think that team wins it without him. So yes I still give him credit for that ring.

OK smartass I was referring to him doing things at the inside linebacker position that I didn't think was possible.. Like the other poster said, him running down McFadden

Willis can't hold Ray Lewis jock strap. London Fletcher had a better career that Willis. Lewis won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer at quarterback. Lewis is an All Time great. Willis had some good years.

We're talking about LBs in their prime.

This is irrelevant to their abilities as a linebacker. That's like saying Randall Cunningham was a better QB than Joe Montana.

when their instincts are equal, this is the difference. Sorry if that was confusing

Patrick Willis couldn't hold Ray Lewis jock strap at any point of their careers. Like a poster said earlier. Urlacher would be a better comparison. Comparing Patrick Willis to Ray Lewis is like comparing Maurice Jones Drew to Barry Sanders

Come on now. At no point in their careers was Willis vs Lewis a legitimate argument?

A better comparison of LBers would be Willis vs Urlacher.

Why?

When was Patrick Willis ever considered the best ever to do it?

On a single season basis? I could rattle off some PFF rankings (see below), but I would rather know how you determine such things.

2007 - 1st
2008 - 2nd
2009 - 1st
2010 - 2nd
2011 - 2nd
2012 - 1st
2013 - 3rd

I go by the eyeball test. I never realized people considered Willis on the level of Ray Lewis. I'm baffled. Do u consider Willis a better player than Mike Singletary or Jack Ham?

I said Ray Lewis is a better LB, but I don't act like it's a MJD to Barry Sanders comparison. Willis was a complete stud. Out of his 7 complete years in the NFL, 6 were all-pro seasons (5 first team, 1 second team). We're comparing apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

I've never seen them play so I can't comment.

ETA: Ray Lewis had a better career, no doubt. And I think he was a better overall linebacker. But to scoff at comparing prime Ray Lewis to prime Patrick Willis is silly.

MJD was a good football player. He was just on bad teams. 1st team or second team all pro or pro bowls can sometimes be inflated, because of the player's reputation. I wasn't trying to diss Willis with the comparison. I was trying to show the greatness of Ray Lewis.

I put Ray Lewis on the level of LT or Reggie White. These players controlled the game from the defensive side.

Patrick Willis because he was better in pass coverage. And he hit harder than Ray.

I'm not biased though
