I would say Westwood based off stats.

Follow up question...Are you still considered a great player of your era if you do not win a major? I mean Ben Curtis won the Open, and we all can agree he is not a great player.

Was he? Would history looked at him differently? That is why I asked.

While Sergio had no majors, until Sunday, he did have Ryder Cup dramatics.

If you think about the question as who do you think will be the next first time major winner, which is how I interpret the question, I think the answer is Thomas Pieters followed closely by Ricky.

You guys seem to be answering the question of who has had the best career to this point and not won a major, which is Westwood, but his window has virtually closed.

Yes.

Not an all time great though. Great of an era for sure. I mean, Westwood was world #1 and has fricking 11 top 5's in majors and 18 top 10's. That is great for this era. Top 10 for this era.

Not a GOAT though.

In 30 years when someone asks who the great golfers were from 2000-2020, I think Sergio is definitely in that conversation.

In 50 years when someone asks who the greatest golfers of all time are, Sergio's name being brought up should warrant mockery.

Justin Thomas doesn't have it between the ears right now, he has a lot of maturing to do. He hits a bad shot and he melts down

Agree about Matsuyama, I'd put him in the top 3. I think he has it all but again he seems to get too emotional after shots, but I'm not sure if affects his ensuing play, maybe like tiger in that way

Matsuyama is in his 20's. So is Rickie.

They will both win at least one major.

Thought this thread was perfect for us to remember how ridiculous Jack was.

In addition to his 18 major wins, he has these finishes in majors:

- 19 Runner-Up finishes
- 9 3rd place finishes
- 56 top 5 finishes combined ( inc 18 wins)

Jack could easily have 25+ majors.

So absurd.

I was about to respond with Davis Love III but I forgot that he won the PGA back in the late 90s.

It's Lee Westwood and he's never going to win one. It's tough to win a major when you can't putt, and Westwood can't putt.

ETA: My brain was thinking scrambling, but I typed putting. Westwood isn't good enough around the greens to win a major.

Matsuyama and John Rahm are both right there.
