Lol you can't just say he isn't the best TE and not list who is

That's what I was thinking.

The only ones I think could be in the conversation are Shannon Sharpe and John Mackey.

He's better than Sharpe, but Mackey is a different story. Mackey's numbers aren't there because of the offenses at that time, but just like Gonzalez, he helped evolve the TE position and he was still a physical run blocker.

btw, no

1206- Rice

1149- Gonzo

not sure where the spreadsheet error occurred

1985-2000(16 years)
Rice 1,281
1997-2012(16 years)
Gonzo 1,242

First four years in the league
Rice-264
Gonzo-261
First five years in the league
Rice-346
Gonzo-334

39 catch diff over 16 years, 2.4 catches/year

the stats are pretty similar, the argument is simple, the most dynamic difference at position.

Like FG kickers
Morton 565
Gary 538
Hansen 495
3 within 10% of leader

RBs
smith 18,355
payton 16,726
sanders 15,269
3 within 20%

What stands out for Rice, he was 40% better than the next best WR, "Huge", and why he's commonly stated to be the best of all time.

Rice 1,549
Harrison 1,102
Carter 1,101

but then let's look at TE, a position that doesn't carry the same respect as the other skill positions.

Gonzo 1,242
Sharpe 815
Witten 806

Gonzo, who is still playing is 52.4% better the the next best.

That much difference at that one position, to me, shows a solid argument as he being considered the GOAT, the only reason people won't latch on is due to their disrespect of the tight-end position IMHO.

So you use yards when comparing RBs, but make no mention of Rice having 7000 more receiving yards than second place?

Jerry Rice has 197 career TD receptions. Gonzalez has 103. How about you figure out the percentages on that.

yeah i agree. i dont actually think the best nfl player ever is tony g and i know the OP doesnt actually think it either. it is interesting, though, to make the case of separation of themselves from the rest of the dudes at their position as the means for being best ever.

Actually, I'm a dissertation away from Ph.D., thumb dick.

But yes, explain to me how the greatest tight end of all time isn't even in the game in short yardage situations and is universally considered an average to below average blocker.

Because I should use points scored when evaluating better kicker or running back?

Ill check when I get home....but if you can feel free to do it first

Rice tds vs next best wr tds
Gonzo tds vs next best te tds

Which is more dynamic?
