The three that come to mind are Rick Majerus, Eddie Sutton, and John Chaney. Keady is a good one too.

Plenty of people have beaten me to the Rick Majerus bit, but I have to say, I'm glad Eddie never won a title; a miserable drunk and human being, that let other people cover his failings for decades, because he was a good basketball coach.

I don't think he's Top 5 guys in terms of coaching ability to not win a national title, but I can see the argument.

We're on the same page on how we feel about him.

But when he had his shite together, I can't deny he was a good coach. He's definitely one of those "what might've been" guys if he would've been able to lay off the bottle.

Ray Meyer

Meyer won one when he had George Mikan. Back in the day, the best teams went to the NIT.

He was a good coach.
I had season tickets when they were a final four team. Their small forward was injured when a team mate fell on him with 2 seconds to go and the game already in hand when they were beating UCLA for the 2nd time that season. They did not have anyone to deal with Larry Bird. Bird would have been chasing the small forward.
It made me wonder about the karma of being so close and not getting to give it your best shot, because a guy was injured with two seconds to go.

DePaul played all the east coast Catholic schools, ND and Marquette.
Meyer held his own.

Bobby Cremins went to 10 NCAA tournaments over a 12 year stretch (1 Final Four, 1 Elite Eight, 3 Sweet Sixteen)

Outside of that run though, he's was average. It's weird.
