I need to ask for a discount on my son’s private school tuition...but the first championship is on me.

Fun fact: IMG Academy is 90k a year if you aren't on scholarship.

There must be some hedge fund dads bankrolling the entire outfit so that their shitty kids can play with five stars.

No, but the way it was my freshman year (many moons ago), if you weren't in the local public school district, you could not compete on any varsity teams as a freshman of the private school. I don't know if all that is still intact.

I played (rode the bench) at a public that lost to privates in the playoffs 4 straight years. (frick you parkview ) and I hate the split and think to be the best you have to beat the best. We had the opportunity and didn’t take advantage of it. That’s not those schools fault.

Catholic having that RB on scholly couldn't stop Ruston High from absolutely annihilating them and setting records in the process.

Catholic had to have it's own classification to finally get past those lowly public schools.

Same with JC but the other way around. Something like 17 of their titles came against 4A public schools and they only lost once that I can remember (Salmen).

Sorry you're poor and had to go to public school. Gross.

JC won those state titles because of depth

Instead of this split nonsense, why don’t they just take all these football factories and throw them in a 6A power conference. They can afford the statewide travel, it eliminates the split and they can do their thing while competing in their own classification. You still redistrict every 2 years if a program falls off.

This has always been the only real solution. I'd take it a step further and say you could probably put every school into just 4 classifications and 5A could be the open division. You'd have a few schools stay in their classification awhile to rack up titles but their ego would get the best of them after awhile and they'd move up.

Obviously you see the difference is that you’re limited to a geographic boundary

The actual problem with the split is how it impacts small schools, nobody talks about it much because less people care about the small schools.

But you’ve got small school districts with just 1-2 teams, public small schools having to travel all over the state, teams with losing record or even NO wins making the playoffs, it’s silly.

Imagine being a basketball coach at a small school, 80% of your team including all your best players play football. The football team only wins 1 game, yet they make the post season and there season gets extend 2-3 weeks, you lose out on all that practice and game time with your kids while they “go to the playoffs” and get rocked by a school that actually deserved to be there.

Not at all and my Son's team lost twice to the LCA team you speak of. Only beef I have is that at the time of the 2nd game the enrollment numbers were 121 for my Son's school and 325 for LCA. No way should they have been playing in Division IV with those enrollment numbers but life isn't fair and winning a title shouldn't be easy. We should of beat them the first game but our Coaches choked and couldn't put one point on the board. The second game they were the much better team and we had no shot.

A lot of this would be fixed under the power conference proposal. Combining 1A and lower enrollment 2A schools fixes that a good deal.

Catholics recent success is more a by product of Fertita than the split. He understands how to use the system to his advantage

Are they limited to a boundary or are they gifted a protected AOR?

Publics complain enough about private schools taking kids from their districts.

It’s pretty gay that private schools are the cream of the crop in most states.

Another reason why Texas HSFB is GOAT.

I’d have killed my self if I had played at a TAPPS school.

The split happened my senior year of high school for football, but we were trash so I didnt think anyhting of it. For Baseball when our coach came in talking about there might be a split, I was pissed along with most of my teamates, and this was the year after we were in the semis as the only Private school. Our coaches were excited because they said it be easier to win, which is bull shite to me. My thoughts are you go out there and play ball regardless of who you are playing, theres no reason to make up state championships or make excuses for why you cant win.

Same rule for public and private but many ways around it. Moving to rent house or apartment in district can make you eligible.
Many private schools can reduce tuition based on family income, or kid works for school during summer. All league
Even if your school closed they had to go by LHSAA rule to do sports. You could play in district of your closed school district or in your attendance zone. If your public school attendance zone school had an F grade could play at any public school .
When Redemptorist, Christian Life and Runnels closed had to follow rules. I know some better players families Moved to be able to play.

I have been laughed at for years for suggesting this, but I really think it’s the best option. Place the elite or dominant teams in their own division and just have them drop back to regular classification if they fall off. Also, I would be fine with legalizing recruiting for publics.
