You removed the pitcher of the decade, in Jack Morris & you removed a HOF 1st baseman with (500 HRs/3000 hits) for a guy who played <10 games at first base that decade.

You may want to trade Greg Maddux for John Smoltz. Maddux was average in the post season, 11-14 with a 3.27 era. Smoltz was 15-4 with a 2.67 era. Considering they played for the same team in the same series and situations, Smoltz was better in the post season.

jack morris was not the pitcher of the decade and Nolan Ryan is wildly over-rated

Dale Murphy was a two time MVP of the 1980s (and it is a crime he's not in the HOF) who I'd take over Eddie Murray even though I love Eddie Murray

Jack Morris won the most games during the 80s, Hershiser & Clemens were great pitchers that pitched in the 80s. Clemens won 105 games in the 80s, Hershier won 108, while Morris threw 133 complete games during the same span.

Eddie Murray is a HOF 1st baseman, that played in the 80s. Dale Murphy isn't a HOF, nor did he play 1st base in the 80s.

No way. Clemens was on the 90s team. Was trying not to put guys on more than 1. Valenzuala and Morris belong over Tudor and hershiser. I guess Nolan could go on the 70s team instead. We agree on Gooden.

I debated putting Murphy in over Puckett in the OF but I think Murray is a lock at 1B over Mattingly, even though Donnie Baseball was my favorite.

Do you think he would be scared?

He did if against a 6'10", 3/4 arm slot lefty throwing 99 mph in Randy Johnson 49 times. And he did it well

Well if we could pick years during the decade...

I'm taking 1988 Orel Hershisher over any other pitcher in the decade.

I don't care what Jack Morris did for a longer period.

In this hypo we don't need 10 years of these guys...just for a series...

For the 80s, I'd take Brett Saberhagen. He was awesome, he just had arm troubles and his career ended early.

And taking Dale Murphy as a 1st baseman over Eddie Murray is insane. I'd probably go:

C Fisk/Carter (take your pick. I unreasonably love Fisk)
1B Murray
2B Sandberg
SS Cal
3B Schmidt/Brett
RF Dave Winfield
CF Dale Murphy
LF Rickey Henderson
DH Yount

SP Saberhagen
SP Doc Gooden
SP Hersheiser
SP Fernando
RP Eck

All of them had certain years where they were completely dominant.

Sab - '89
Hershisher - '88
Doc - '85
El Toro - '81
Eck - '88-'89 (except Gibby's HR )
