You're right about it not being egregious by any means. I thought there was some type of unnecessary roughness penalty on returns like that though, specifically if the block happens far from the play. Could be wrong though.

I am unsure of the rules as it pertains to any blocking (legal/illegal) far from a play, but Gary's rant was not warranted in the slightest.
