Cowboys stadium could have been built anywhere in the metro plex. But Arlington offered them the best deal. It would have been nice to be near downtown but it would have costed about 25% more and Jerry Jones built his stadium nice enough to still attract the premium events.

thing is teams like the cowboys, redskins and pats have fan bases that no matter where the stadium is they will flow to it, so not having their stadium downtown does't affect them.

I doubt people who live on the other side of atlanta are going to drive clear across to the suburbs on the other side falcon fans are just not that fanatic

it sucks that Miami gets so many Superbowls, because it probably has the worst located stadium in the NFL.

They can get away with it because they have 80 degree weather in January (normally, it was actually upper 30s when I went to the Orange Bowl). The location does make it easier for people from Ft Lauderdale and West Palm to go to games, but it's terrible for people from out of town. The stadium owns all possible parking and there's no good mass transit option, so everyone has to pay their $30 fee. I guess they never could have put it in downtown Miami anyway given the cost of real estate. But if anything, the old Orange Bowl/new Marlins stadium is in an even worse location.

The safety issue is a bit overblown.
Natural defense mechanism for someone who lives in a lame McBurb and is part of the crappiest fan base in football. Overblow the safety issue and try to make others believe that you have no choice but to escape a war zone.

Typical falcons fan:
1. Ditches the city
2. Bitches about the city
3. Finds any excuse not to go to games
4. Subtly blames the blacks for steps 1-3

What's bad about it? (Asking because I don't know)

Yeah I was kinda surprised by the "I don't want to go to Atlanta for the Atlanta Falcons game, I want the games in the burbs".

I mean the same fans who cheered more for Vick, than their own team when they lost to the Eagles a few years ago.

I don't know it isn't in the best area, but the location seems to be really good.

as compared to the other stadium miles north of the city.

I went to one game at the old Orange Bowl. It's fully surrounded by the "Little Havana" neighborhood with no hotels, places to eat, parking, or transit anywhere. It was like Legion Field or the LA Coliseum - stadiums that were built 70+ years ago, never upgraded, and surrounded by a deteriorating neighborhood.

We love Atlanta, but we love the suburbs of Atlanta where we don't have to worry about getting mugged, shot, raped or murdered.

Seriously? I live practically downtown and have never once felt unsafe. More crime happens in DeKalb county than in downtown Atlanta. Hell, Georgia States campus is safer than Georgia Tech's.

Suburbanites are walking breathing stereotypes.

I've never thought Downtown Atlanta was ghetto.

Basically the area west of Northside Dr and south of MLK Dr is ghetto. The area right around the state capitol and city hall is OK.

Well, yeah. But there is absolutely no reason to be over there if you are going to the game, are tailgating, or returning home unless you live over there.

OTPers like NGT just want everything catered to them instead of actually belonging to a community.

Most of it isn't. Southwest Atlanta is ghetto. There are pockets of ghetto elsewhere. People are just ignorant.

I never said otherwise. they just don't seem to have the unwavering support the saints have. despite being a much larger city

What doesn't help ATL pro sports team fandom is that Atlanta is such a transient city. Most people don't have a connection with the Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers and to an extent, the Braves. But as a resident, you can still love the city with out caring if the Falcons make the playoffs.

This is probably more a discussion for another topic, but I have always viewed ATL as a huge diverse college sports town, with most of the people I know caring more for their college teams than the local pro teams that they previously had no affiliation with. I could be in the minority on this view, but it definitely describes the Atlanta I knew when I lived there.
