I especially can't relate to people who would rather live in the suburbs but still bitch about what goes on in the city and actually expect an NFL franchise to follow them to their McSuburb.

Especially when they can park their car in the suburbs, take Marta in and get dropped off across the street from the stadium, thus limiting the possibility of getting their car broken into, raped or murdered to 0.00005%.

If anyone wants to complain about the location of Turner Field however, I fully support that. Why the hell it is not on a Marta line? You have to transfer to a bus or walk .75 miles to get to the stadium. Very poor planning related to mass transit for the stadium location.

I dont mind taking Marta to the Falcons game. Like you said it costs you 5 bucks and you are literally right there.

I prefer to tailgate for Braves games, so I usually drive down and crash with a buddy.

Yeah, but you're a reasonable person, unlike NGT.

It might be fun for vistors coming in once a year, but as far as Atlanta residents go,you have to understand the demographics. We're not like New Orleans where people embrace the downtown environment. The footprint of "Atlanta" is enormous and extends 40 miles north. The fans that will spend the money to come to the games are "Atlanta" residents but don't live in the city limits. The same thought goes for Turner Field...it's in a shite location that no one wants to go. We love Atlanta, but we love the suburbs of Atlanta where we don't have to worry about getting mugged, shot, raped or murdered.

STL have a higher crime rate and people still go into the city limits of STL for Cardinals, RAMS, and Blues games. ATL sport fans suck. And STL city limits are only about 320,000 but the metro area is almost 3 mil. That tells you people would rather live in the suburbs of STL than the city.

On a side note, 2 marines got robbed last summer by Busch Stadium when they were in town for a Cards game, believe it was military weekend. Still don't stop people from packing Busch Stadium.

Yes, crime is everywhere. Both cities have great areas. Most of the bad parts of NOLA are condensed into certain areas. Downtown is very far from Ghetto and Uptown is very nice.

I just found it funny that a person hates having a stadium in the actual city the team is from.

I find it interesting that whenever a home invasion is mentioned on the news here, it's someplace OTP...

Only thing better than a new stadium with a retractable roof would be if the citizens of Doraville would quit being bitches, and let Arthur build it on the old GM plant site.

How often do people get raped or murdered on the way to a game?

I have been to Atlanta wearing oposing team colors over a dozen times and never felt unsafe. Yes you do have a lot of bums out at night, but it isn't that bad downtown.

Atlanta has one of the best urban located stadiums in the country. I enjoy going there for games. Much better than Miami and the stadium being a thirty minute drive from South Beach.

I don't really understand why the Georiga dome needs to be replaced. Its only been around for 20 years. The fricking bonds aren't even paid off and won't be for another 3-8 years from what I read.

if the owners want to replace stadiums they need to do it themselves.

fricking things cost hundreds of millions of dollars and inevitably come from the taxpayer

Hell, look at Louisiana and the Saints. We have a very poor state with regular budget shortfalls and are still funneling money into the Saints/NFL's pocket

Yankees did the same thing even tho there is no appropriate way for anyone to move the Yankees out of the New York area. There is no excuse for that really - they generate huge revenue from their cable network alone and yet the taxpayer there gets socked with a 600 plus million dollar bill so the Yankee ownership can make even more money

Cities use stadiums to help redevelop/maintain areas of their city that can/could be attractive moving forward in the future. It also depends on how much incentive a team is given in order to build a new stadium. This includes tax breaks.

Two examples. Houston is currently buidling a new 22,000 seat soccer stadium in East Houston, but not far from downtown. that area of the city has been neglected from development for almost 40 years. The city donated the land for the stadium and it looks to be very nice. Since then hotels/residential/other development have been pegged for the site. This will bring a healthy tax revenue from property/sales/investment in the area that was once negelected.

Cowboys stadium could have been built anywhere in the metro plex. But Arlington offered them the best deal. It would have been nice to be near downtown but it would have costed about 25% more and Jerry Jones built his stadium nice enough to still attract the premium events.

I think Atlanta is a world class city but I cannot imagine a new stadium in the suburbs. Keep it downtown, next to the convention center and keep the tax revenue in the city.

The safety issue is a bit overblown. You have options to commute there. MARTA, Car, taxi etc. if none of those appeal to you then GFY.

They don't. I was referring to the people that are afraid to go down to the GA Dome because they feel it is unsafe.

Also, I think you meant to say, "never not felt safe".

It blows my mind that5 you cannot legally sell tickets even at lower than face value in Arlington unless you have a scalper pass, and then you can charge whatever you want. That was weird.

I hate Surburban stadiums, and it sucks that Miami gets so many Superbowls, because it probably has the worst located stadium in the NFL. It is in a horrible ghetto, and with Superbowl traffic it takes hours to get to from South Beach.

NOLA and Austin have stadiums smack in the middle of downtown, where a stadium should be.

I'm okay with the location of the ga dome but they could certainly benefit by redeveloping the surrounding areas. All of you Nola people may not think that the area around the dome is the ghetto, but to be frank, your wrong and it is.

For ATL people, putting it in Doraville makes a lot of sense. For non-atl people, leaving it where it is makes more sense.
