But the league likes expansion fees. Which means it will probably happen. So I hope some Atlanta businessman is prepared to write a check for $1B.

They'll be in Atlanta. This time they will be closer to their core of fans(see the Braves) and more importantly, better ownership, which is the #1 reason that both the Flames and Thrashers left.

Atlanta Sudistes....Won't make sense when they move to Quebec but at least it's in French.

Makes just as much sense as the Calgary Flames. Alternatively, they can be the tanks since they named their first franchise after Sherman wrecking shite.

Dallas has a great, successful NHL franchise that isn't going anywhere, but Houston and Atlanta do not. I wonder why...

Just food for thought...now you do the dishes...

Also one step closer to losing another NHL team to another city.

The Stars were an existing franchise which moved rather than being an expansion team.

Granted, the NHL’s expansion plans with regards to Seattle and Vegas weren’t nearly as bad as prior expansion plans.

So if Atlanta got the Thrashers back, would you cheer for for them? Or continue supporting the Penguins?

Because you need white people with money. That’s the only group of people who care about hockey.

Expansion request now submitted.

quote:

The Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment Group, fronted by former NHL player Anson Carter, has formally requested that the NHL commence with an expansion process aimed at bringing a franchise to the greater Atlanta area for a third time.

The announcement, published on Tuesday by Sportsnet, states that the group is seeking an NHL team for a new arena designed by architect Frank Gehry that will be part of a larger development at the North Point Mall site in Alpharetta, located around 30 minutes from where the Thrashers used to play.

There are other groups interested in bringing the NHL to Atlanta. Vernon Krause, a businessman who has proposed building an 18,000-seat arena in a mixed use development in Forsyth County, told WSB-TV that he met with Bettman in New York. Krause says he believes that if the NHL approves expansion, a team could play in its arena beginning in the 2027-28 season.

A lot of transplants in Atlanta who would like to have a hockey team to root for because they don’t have one where they are from.

I’m from New Orleans but live in East Georgia. and would love to have an nhl team here.

The least woke sport.

Now we have two groups vying to bring hockey back to Atlanta.

This is good news.

If you're referring to the expansion draft rules, you're 100% right. The expansion teams in the 2000s got fricked, most namely the Columbus Blue Jackets.

And they aren't brining in multiple teams a year, they are staggering them. Along with the fact that the game is certainly growing in the US on the youth level (bigger talent pool).

Speaking of which went to Thrashers night at the Gladiators game was able to snag myself a Thrashers jersey but also that place was packed the hell out. There are absolutely hockey fans out here and will definitely come in droves to a NHL team
