Well it looks like I knew even less about international player signings than I thought I did. I am beyond zero at this point.

Sounds like Dayton Moore and Dan Jennings could be top candidates

LINK

How will Dayton Moore acquire Braves retreads if he is already GM of the Braves. I don't think Jennings would be bad in a normal franchise

Sounds like Maitan, Gutierrez and Waters are at risk of being deemed FA.

Taking away Maitan would suck for y'all. I don't think they've ever freed up a prospect of that caliber. All the Sox guys were pretty low profile from what I remember

I don't think they go that far

Waters would be terrible also.

Hopefully the Anderson/Wentz/Muller underslot deals in 16 aren’t in play here.

Also hope Pache signing was clean.

I thought it was only supposed to be international signings and nothing with the draft

No Passan said the Braves offered Waters a car to take an underslot deal.

Also said Coppy was very well known in the industry to be locking in underslot deals months in advance. The Anderson/Wentz/Muller combo in 16 was definitely a manipulation of the system.

Doubt they would have picked Anderson at 3 if they weren’t sure they had Wentz/Muller.

The Cruz/Toscano/Portuondo signings were very fishy also.

This is getting dangerous. The Braves GM did boneheaded moves.

The Braves should bring back Cox and Schuerholz.

They haven't gone anywhere. Who do you think leaked this to MLB?

Jeff Passan article on the situation

The Braves are screwed and I expect them to lose at least Maitan

Where are all of the Coppy cock suckers now?

Given the apparent breadth of the issues, you can expect that several international players will be declared free agents. When Boston did this exact thing, to a lesser degree, a few years ago the involved players were declared free agents by the league as a penalty.

How does Hart survive this scandal? Apparently, the internal workings of the Braves organization were a mess.

Ripping a signed player off a roster would be an unprecedented move. Doubtful.

Wish I had come back to this thread earlier. It's not unprecedented at all, see 2015 Red Sox international signees. I wasn't just pulling out of my arse the concern about losing Maitan.

This one I actually don't believe. I know someone who's involved in scouting and I was told Waters had a very poor attitude during the process and that's what cost him in the end.

The difference is those Red Sox players had never left their countries or played for org. Maitan has played a season of A ball in the US.

The more I think about it the less I think they’ll allow Maitan to double dip here.

From a Fangraphs prospect chat:

quote:

I don't know if MLB will make him a free agent but there's recent precedent for it if they do. Albert Guaimaro and Simon Muzziotti were made FAs after already playing pro ball for the Red Sox. Unless other considerations are made for Maitan and this incident, if MLB finds an infraction they consider similar to what happened with Boston, maybe Maitan hits the open market.

Looks like at least 2 of the Red Sox guys were playing organized ball and pulled.

Although I thought I read somewhere that the investigation into Maitan initially was thought to reveal nothing of note.
