Que TexasTiger explaining how the Astros will still win 90 games because they always go 69-12 in the 2nd half.

Vegas has the over/under at 75 wins. You confident with that 65 win number?

I'd take the over all day long.

Partially because your dumbass owner is sure to make a bonehead move to win a few more games at the expense of the future.

Plus the NL Central isn't exactly the AL East.

It depends...any chance they make a move on ANY pitcher?

I just don't get how they didn't dig deeper into a FA piutcher market that was fantastic this offseason

Valverde. There's the Astros biggest trading piece.

I think they can surpass that expectation. They have a legitimate shot at .500.

There is no way Tejada does not play. He has been more forthright than Arod, or any of several other players.

I have enough interest in them this season to watch them spoil other teams' hopes.

Agreed. assuming the "growth" on his pitching arm isn't a tumor or something.

fwiw, i'm thinking 80-87 wins this year. The lineup and pitching rotation stays the same. basically, we lose Wigginton. He was worth a few runs here and there, but I never thought he was good enough to significantly disrupt the offense if he ended up signing elsewhere.

For the most part, the pitching rotation hasn't changed either. Well, of course, there's the ageless Mike Hampton......If any of those guys have improved any at all going into '09, then I think it will be, AT LEAST, entertaining. i'm not exactly jumping off a bridge just yet. Just hate the Hampton deal.

100. The millions of Cubs fans who invade the park on a daily basis will inspire these guys to have a "Major League" type season.

And fwiw, I always try to stay posative about the Astros upcoming season no matter how bleak it looks. If I was as negative as most of the Stros fans on here, what would be the point of watching?

Let me break it down for you. To keep the same team from last year on the field this year it would have cost 120 million dollars. To you that is just a number, to Drayton that is actualy dollars that he has to pay. He has to make a business decision with the slumping economy on what his payroll needs to be in order to turn a profit/break even with the estimated revenue he will bring in this year. That figure was 100 million. That means Ed Wades job was to trim 20 million off of last years payroll. Do you have any idea how hard it is to do that AND ad starting pitching from free agency? There are still great players on this team, they will not be as terrible as most of you want to write them off to be.

so you are saying the Astros make the playoffs with 80 wins in a 2 game tiebreaker finish. That would be exciting!
