Are the Saints one of the worst NFL franchises at the moment?

Franchise QB in obvious decline, unmotivated head coach, disinterested owners, atrocious talent evaluators and scouts....

Is it time to clean shop in New Orleans?

Already cleaned shop on defense...some offense

I think 1 or 2 more talented players are needed. What needs changing is the coaching staff.

First order of business is ownership becoming more stable and interested. A good sports franchise has to have a robust and strong ownership.

Then it will flow on down to the front office, then the coaching, then the players.

They already replaced the entire scouting staff over the past offseason. Another shite team means it's the GM's head on the chopping block next.

I wouldn't be surprised if Payton just walks away from coaching after this season. He's a Parcells student, and Bill never stayed in one place too long.

10 years (well, 9) in one place is a longgg time. Payton already beat the odds.

thing is... the new scouting dept is already paying out... the new D is young so there will be growing pains... but Anthony is doing well, as is Kikaha, Swann & Breaux have really come out of nowhere to play some good ball

and all those guys are still growing... as are guys like Ellerby & Davison

the O needs some major help... esp. on O-line... Peat had a rough day today... esp. when the rook's called on to replace our best O-lineman

I wouldn't be opposed to Tom Coughlin stepping down at the end of the year and picking up Payton.

Bad drafts are the ultimate downfall right here for the NO Saints, IMO.

I knew it would never happen, but two years ago I wanted to fire Loomis and trade Brees and Graham. Our roster management was abysmal, and those two were at the (relative) peak of their careers. We coulda gotten a king's ransom from two suckers like the Texans and the Browns. Then we bring in a GM who can actually draft and go to work rebuilding our roster with young talent.

Obviously in the real world that would never happen, but I would give anything for it to have happened at the time and said as much.

Except that took steps to correct draft woes. Axed a lot of scouts and brought in Ireland and magically they had their best draft it appears since 2006.

They need to fire several coaches (McMahon, Vitt, Johnson, etc). Need to let all that dead money come off the cap. Make more wise draft selections.

They can definitely be back to respectable. But it's going to be a really bad year.

You do realize that Brees is playing hurt and has a shite OL right? That's not a good combination. The Saints just need to stop missing so bad on draft picks and get Brees some help. Last year everyone was saying that Tom Brady was done but then his OL came together and he became a world beater again.

disinterested owners,

Tom Benson is 88 years old.
Every time you see him, he does not look like he is lucid.

Not making fun of him because of his age(we are all getting older) but he just does not seem to be too aware of whats going on around him.
