The umps created controversy If the umps didn't call interference and SHSU won there would be no controversy, because everyone knew the runner at 1st was safe by a mile.
TCU could have cried interference but everyone would have known it didn't matter Calling interference caused the controversy.

No one is debating that, but neither of those statements means it was illegal.

I wouldn't hate TCU's uniforms so much if the hat wasn't identical to the jersey. There is just something about the horizontal "TCU" on both that drives me nuts.
How about just put a frog head on the hat or "frogs" on the jerseys

Yeah, it would be nice if they added a little something to them.

So everyone is arguing a call where in college baseball you arent allowed to take a fielder out, and the runner did?

Yep!

No, some people are arguing that the call was correct based on a rule that doesn't exist. Your post is a great example.

In college baseball you are not allowed to break up a double play by taking a fielder out.

From the video, it looks like he slid past the bag.
He could be called out and the DP awarded just for that. College rules prohibit that.
Just for the record, I'm not saying that I agree with the rule but given how it's written, the ump really didn't have much of an option. The runner going into 2nd should have just slowed down and peeled off to the right.
I finally looked back on what happened in the 9th. SHSU got effed far worse in that instance.

You are if he's standing on, in front of, or behind the bag in the baseline.

You are allowed to make contact as long as the slide is directly into the bag and do not roll into the fielder.

False.

I think 10 times out of 10 a college ump would make that call. Too much contact not too. Had he actually slid "into the bag" and not over it and into the player, he would have been fine. Even if the fielder had fell over.

On any force play, the runner must slide on the ground before the base and in a
direct line between the two bases. It is permissible for the slider’s momentum
to carry him through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram).
Exception—A runner need not slide directly into a base as long as the
runner slides or runs in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making
contact or altering the play of the fielder. Interference shall not be called.
Is that the rule that everyone is questioning?

Right. It was called because the TCU guy was blown the frick up.. Which isn't in the rule book.

Yes, some people are confused and think the last part means they "must" go out of the line to avoid contact...when it is actually explains when they are allowed to go out of the baseline without being called for interference.
Example: they aren't close enough to slide into the bag to break up the double play so they run out of the baseline to avoid being hit in the face by the throw.

But the contact could have been avoided as the fielder was behind the bag. So IMO it was interference.
It was a tough call no matter what though.
