This thread is cringeworthy.

Spurrier didn't fare too well in NFL either IIRC. He was an excellent college coach from what I remember.

He failed only because he could not get a QB.

He wanted Drew Brees and Drew Brees wanted to go to Miami but their medical staff failed him on his physical for his surgically repaired shoulder.

Saban and Miami had to settle for a washed Dante Cullpepper.

Alabama will boat race soft arse Clemson again and it scares you so you wish he wasn't coaching in college. I get it man it's okay

Meh, Clemson has the athletes to compete with Bama. I think it'll be a good game.

You make it sound like anybody can coach college football. If anything, this is a complement to Saban. He makes it look effortless.

Let's not act like some of the LSU, UGA, and UF teams he faced weren't loaded with talent.

I wish I could fail as bad as Nick Saban has failed.

Lol

I actually think that is true. But, it is true of most coaches. Saban literally does everything else better than everyone else. Everything.

1. Campus infrastructure. He changed the game at LSU by forcing them to build buildings. And, he's done the same at Bama to keep their facilities at the top of the country's list.
2. Scouting of high school talent. Has a better system in place than anyone.
3. Recruiting - has proven to be better than everyone.
4. Development of players.
5. Hiring of staff members. He's replaced dozens upon dozens of coaches and doesn't seem to miss a beat. When he makes a mistake, he fixes it quickly before it harms the program.
6. Scouting of opponents.
7. Game planning to expose weaknesses and use's his own team's strengths to dominate.

He does all of that globally better than anyone. He might not be the best on every issue, but he's by far the best all-around.

His game-day coaching has proven to be average. He's had quite a few clock blunders and dumb decisions of his own. The difference is that no one notices when you are consistently winning by 20+ points every week. Doing everything else so well means that he doesn't have to be perfect on game days.

How does one judge in-game coaching ability?

They watch the last few years of Les. Everything that looks like that goes in the bad category.

I doubt it.

Plus Saban really didn't spend any time in the NFL as a head coach. Belichick and Carrol have been head coaches multiple times, and have been fired from NFL head coaching jobs. Saban was the coach in Miami for what 1-2 years?

I mean Jeff Fisher would get a lifetime contract with Saban's NFL record

In what way? His team's constantly come back when they are down a big deficit, his track record with trick plays is phenomenal, and they rarely ever don't play to their potential
