Public university is funded by the public, which is everyone. Someone in the public is always gonna be offended about something, so just close the U.

Winner.

I still don't get why that can't go on? If it's not required I don't see the big deal. There are plenty of public businesses that have chapels, Christian groups, Muslim groups, Jewish groups, ect... I don't see how this is different

Correct. There are 100 something schools that play football and aren't Christian. You knew what you were getting when Dabo recruited you. Many schools would take you if you backed out on Clemson. I wouldn't go play at Boise State for some Scientologist. The coaches beliefs always sway the parents in the recruiting process. There's too much time together for a coaches beliefs not to be known.

Clemson being one of them. As many people have said in this thread. Clemson is a public university that is not supposed to promote a religion.

Well theyre absolutely right, but sports and religion have gone hand and hand, separation of church and state be damned. We all know that doesnt really exist.

Here is the error: University is not promoting, but an individual is. Because the man has a job does not stop the man from being. The real issue is that atheists don't like the thought of an all powerful Creator. So, atheists don't want anyone anywhere to broach the topic.

Dabo represents the University. Pretty sure the two aren't separable. Your rambling about a creator has nothing to do with the discussion, though.

Atheists dont like the thought of worship. Why should anything be worshiped?

As an Atheist, I would have no problem if I came to find out there was an all powerful creator. It wouldn't really change my life. But this group is just out to represent people that probably would fear some sort of retribution if they spoke up. I don't really care if Dabo wants to promote Christianity to his team, but I can see how a non-Christian player could see it as a missed opportunity to advance his relationship with Dabo and the team.

Well, when they have the Constitution on their side, they get a voice at the table.

Everyone is missing the point here. We all should be thanking this group, even the people arguing against them. Clemson does this for recruiting. As fans of schools that recruit against them, this is a good thing.
Wish the group would turn their sites on Auburn and UGA next.

As a solid atheist, and a firm believer there is no such thing as a god, if they get something positive out of it, who cares. They clearly state it's 100% voluntary, if grown men who have the right to vote, want to gather together on their own free time and talk about Thor or Zeus or Buddah, or whatever fictional character they think is out there, so be it.
there's a ton more scandalous shite going on in college football programs bigger than church/state

I understand and tend to agree, but as with most "controversies" of this nature this is much ado about nothing. I gaurantee that there is no Clemson player who is worth a shite who would be relegated to the bench just because he doesn't beleive in Christianity or speaks out against it. Dabo Swinney's whole livelihood revolvs around winning football games. He (and every other coach) would start a devil worshiper at QB if the guy was an All American.

I agree with this, but my point was more towards the borderline guy. And, I'm not saying Dabo would start a Christian over an Atheist or anything like that. I'm just saying it could be a subconscious thing. Dabo has two guys that are pretty similar on the field. He feels closer with one guy and trusts him because of their relationship in these devotionals. I don't blame Dabo for feeling that way, but I can see the downside for the person that doesn't want to attend these things.
