In a text intended for another lawyer, Bob Hinton indicated Manziel spent more than $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia shop hours after being involved in a hit-and-run accident and said "heaven help us" if Manziel had to pass a drug test as a condition of a plea deal. Manziel is accused of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley during an incident in January.

An attorney who inadvertently sent a text message to The Associated Press expressing doubt about whether Johnny Manziel could stay clean has withdrawn from representing Manziel in his domestic violence case. Manziel's spokeswoman, Denise C. Michaels, tweeted Monday that associate attorney Bob Hinton was leaving the case, information she said was confirmed by Manziel's lead attorney, Jim Darnell.

Last Wednesday, Hinton, in a text sent to AP, said he doubted the former Cleveland Browns quarterback could remain clean while seeking a plea deal in his case. He also texted that a receipt indicated Manziel might have spent more than $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia store less than a day after he was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run crash on June 20. The text was sent after AP texted Hinton seeking comment about the cash

thread title is kind of misleadingimo. his lead counsel is still on the case, but his boss essentially forced his associate to withdraw as associate counsel for being a dumbass

Spending a $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia shop? And yet aggies still believe that he did not see his autographs for $1,700. Risking throwing his teammates under the bus by possibly getting suspended & ruining their season. But, of course, he did kill his pro day workouts !

I hadn't picked up on the fact that the guy that sent the text message to the AP was an associate.

I'm thinking he is off of more than just the Manziel case...

I'm thinking the exact same thing man. Dude isn't that filthy rich and I'm sure his parents had to have cut him off by now.

He can probably pick up another nice paycheck from his attorney's malpractice insurance carrier.

I'm an associate attorney and I can say without reservation that if I pulled something like this I would be Gone Pecan.
