So most teams have played about 75 games this year so while we aren't exactly at the mid way point, we are close enough. Let's discuss the awards for the 1st half

NL:
MVP: Paul Goldschmidt
Cy Young: Max Scherzer
ROY: Cody Bellinger

AL:
MVP: Aaron Judge
Cy Young: Chris Sale
ROY: Aaron Judge

When's the last time we've had the same player win both MVP and ROY?

Your list is perfect. No one else in either leagues has an argument against the guys you listed

Ichiro? But he was hardly the normal rookie.

When is the last time before that? I don't count him.

Damn. And even he was coming into his age 28 season that year

Goldschmidt has been amazing but Ryan Zimmerman hasn't gotten nearly enough recognition for the year he's had. He's probably my #2 for the NL MVP at the moment. I agree with all your picks

Fred Lynn, in 1974.

Those are the only two

Technically Ichiro in 2001 but it's sort of ludicrous to classify him as a rookie when you consider the fact that he was 27 years and a 7x batting champion in Japan. The last real rookie to win MVP and ROY was Fred Lynn with the Red Sox.

Zimmerman has been great but I don't know if he'd get my #2 vote. I think that would go to Corey Seager

Outside of walks, Zimmerman is better than Seager in literally every offensive category. I know Seager is better defensively and plays a premium position, but I just don't see how that could overcome how much better Zimmy has been offensively.

He's leading Seager by more than 100pts in OPS and has him by 46 points in average. I'm sure you're fixing to throw about 6 sabermetric stats at me that I have no clue about, but the OPS and average being that much greater is pretty telling.

All in all, they're both having great seasons, Zimmy is just having a better one to this point in my eyes.

Zimmerman has been better at the plate. Seager is just having a really good season at the plate as well and is playing a premium position competently and is 2nd in the NL in WAR

WAR should compliment your argument, not supplement it. It's a decent stat but Seager being .5 better in WAR doesn't overcome the difference between the two at the plate.

It's really all a moot point because Goldschmidt is running away with the MVP so far.

No he's not. Seager should definitely not be 2

Ichiro would have like 9,000 hits if had been in MLB his whole career

fwiw xwOBA suggests that Zimmerman has been playing over his head a little bit at the plate, he has a xwOBA of 405 and an actual wOBA of over 420, and Seager has been underperforming, a xwOBA of 410 and an actual wOBA of under 390

it supports my argument that Seagers overall level of play is a reason why I would put him #2
