Greg Ives named Junior's 2015 crew chief

He is currently working as the crew chief for Chase Elliot and will replace Letarte at the start of next season.Hopefully Jr can keep his momentum going into next season that Letarte helped build. Ives is already working for Jr at JR Motorsports and worked for Hendrick and Chad Knaus in the past.

Mark Martin 'going home' to Roush Fenway

Mark Martin is going back to work for The Cat in The Hat as a driver development coach. Good to see Mark getting back into it racing. One of my all time favorites.

Major penalties to 11 car and JGR

Hamlin lost 75 points and Grubb was suspended for six races. Huge blow to Hamlin. Grubb is going to start serving his penalty even though JGR is going to appeal.

Seems like JGR has been hit with more penalties in the last few years than any other team. I guess everyone else is better at cheating than them.

"Yeah, let's fine JGR/Hamlin a frickload for something that probably accidentally happened during the race". frick the NASCAR officials.

This is the first year that NASCAR has laid out levels of penalties. It is the right call.

There is no way to define intent. If it probably fell off during the race then it probably should have been attached better.

I can't disagree with that. But I love that little chart they put out there for "transparency" has no examples of what types of infractions would qualify for each tier of punishment. Obama's administration still looks damn near translucent compared to NASCAR.

Isn't Letarte going to Hendricks Enginering office? I knew they announced early he was not going to be back next year.

I think he's going to NBCSP to be a broadcaster.

he was hired during the off season by NBC to be on the nascar broadcast. Letarte had always said he didnt want to wear himself out being a crew chief and wanted to retire from it by age 40.

I'm afraid the crew chief change for Jr. is going to stall some of that momentum he finally built up. As for as Hamlin goes, I really don't understand what the infraction was or the advantage it was supposed to give him. I'm not a fan of his so I really don't care.

Go compare penalties between Hendrick and JGR for the the last three years and get back to me.

Basically Hamlin's car was considered to get a better aero advantage on the rear end, which would have given him more rear grip.
