And people are still pushing early specialization in sports.

Running track counts as multiple sports, which has a direct correlation to football.
I wonder how many play football and baseball.

What about MLB? MLS? NBA? NHL? Sample size is small here.

I'd think football and basketball would have the most dual-athletes

5, or 15 percent played baseball

Well, it's a different sport sooooooo, no shite.
Specialization to one sport at young ages is terrible and only terrible parents would push this on their kids.

Probably has more to do with the first round picks being super fricking athletic than anything about "specialization"

But it's not really that different. That's my point. It's a spring sport, usually coached by football coaches who basically use it as an opportunity to work with their football players during the dead period for football.

Is that from this year or over time?

I think my freshman year out coaches told everyone that they had to play a second sport
Of course they had no way to enforce that

From my knowledge I'd say a good amount of the American born players played other sports in high school.

It's because first round pick are great athletes...not because playing multiple sports necessarily assisted in them being first round picks.

Did you know jimmy graham played basketball in college ?

Yeh I can see this for football and basketball. I bet .05% of pro tennis players played multiple sports after turning 14

I remember Buck Showalter saying the same thing about baseball players. He said travel squads and kids playing baseball year round were terrible for the sport. They don't become as well rounded athletically and pitchers become more prone to arm injuries with no off-season to rest. The only reason for an athlete to concentrate on one sport is if there's financial incentives in play such as money or a scholarship.

I don't get it, is this supposed to be surprising?
