It’s seems like teams had names for their defensive units back then more than today. Player movement may be why you don’t see it as much today but here are some that I can recall

Vikings - Purple People Eaters
Cowboys - Doomsday Defense
Rams - Fearsome Foursome
Dolphins- No Name Defense and Killer Bs
Falcons - Grits Blitz lol
Broncos - Orange Crush
Steelers - Steel Curtain
Redskins- Over the Hill Gang

And maybe the Jets were Mean Green or Gang Green or something?
Chicago-Monsters of the Midway, not sure if that was specific to their defense though

Anyone remember others or even from later like Dome Patrol etc

Vikings had the Williams Wall in the late 2000s. Seahawks had the Legion of Boom in the early-mid 2010s.

Statistically the greatest single season defense in league history. They still hold the record for fewest points per game allowed in a season.

They gave up more than 20 points only twice all season. The Saints were one of them.

We'll call it a tie. LT gets the spotlight but the Giants defense then was full of monsters.

And yep. Jim Burt, Leonard Marshall, George Martin. The D Line and LBs were nasty. I don’t remember the secondary that well.

Probably has something to do with it. Offenses are just so damn good today and it’s a less physical game.
