Initial reports from distributors indicate that the event generated more than 4.4 million U.S. buys and more than $400 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue alone. With additional revenue from the live gate at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, international television distribution, sponsorships, closed circuit and merchandise sales, the event is expected to generate in excess of $500 million in gross worldwide receipts

Any other fights this year that will get a quarter of this viewership?

That's cute, and too generous. Drop down to an eighth and you still won't even be close.

Deontay Wilder vs Bermane Stiverne the 1/4 of that viewership. Canelo/kirkland did half of that. That's just off the top of my head.

Nice try though.

Let me rephrase that. Will there be another fight where people pay $100 for that one night that will draw that kind of rating?

We both know the answer to that one.

Boxing isn't dead, it just smells funny.

Meanwhile, MMA fighters fight for peanuts working for the slave master Dana White.

Well to be fair, those numbers have never been reached in the past either.

Wilder/Klitchko will bring in big numbers when it happens, but it won't be this year.

Floyd/GGG would bring in big numbers, but Floyd won't go near GGG.

MMA stars don't get peanuts. But that's neither here nor there.

Right, and that's basically my point. Using this fights ratings to say boxing isn't dead is disingenuous. I won't say this kind of draw will ever happen again, but it is highly unlikely.

B/c they don't draw 4M people in PPV @ $100 a pop

I always thought that UFC needed better marketing to allow them to take that next step to unseating the great boxing cards.

UFC has a good product most of the time. Like boxing, drawing stars come and go but their marketing is absolutely terrible.

I think UFC would be better going to a ring, but they will never do that. Pride setup and rules were better for excitement, IMO.
