Fun fact.

The last Super Bowl loser to reach the super bowl the following season......

Buffalo.

They lost their OC, but kept all their offensive weapons and improved on defense. I don't see a drop off or at least a big enough one that'll knock them out.

Atlanta went into the Super Bowl massacring teams. If Atlanta kicks that field goal and wins are we having this conversation?

That's not a biased prediction at all.

Reasons why having them as the top seed is a terrible prediction:

Falcons lost their OC. Their offense will not be as good. Top 5, sure

The Falcons caught lightning in a bottle last year, their line stayed healthy... basically everyone did.

History. It isn't kind to Superbowl losers

Their SB loss is the most deflating loss in the history of football. It will take years to recover.

That's a massive assumption, hell the Bill returned to the Super Bowl three straight times after their first loss.

It's more about how Sarkisian will pan out and how much the rest of the NFC will improve. If the offense doesn't drop off a cliff and they stay healthy, Atlanta will remain head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC

I mean.. that's a pretty funny comparison. Seriously, take a bow.

I would say the Panthers would be the pick from the South but their O-line blows. I don't think it will be the Bucs, they are too much of a trendy pick by the lofty media people.

I would say the Saints but we are already in hot water with two key O-linemen not 100% and Nick Fairley's career could be in jeopardy. There are a bunch of new assistant coaches on board now so that should make things a little more interesting IMO.

for the Falcons, I can't see them matching their success on offense from last year.

basically, I think each team will give each other fits and you'll have a handful of 7-9 squads.

but hey, crazier things have happened

Let me start by saying, I fricking hate the falcons, but why would you not have them in the playoffs. Their offense is just so damn good. And their defense is continuously improving in my unbiased, unfortunate opinion....

The offense is due for some regression, and the NFC South is a revolving door the past decade. The NFL has something like 5 new playoff teams a year and Super Bowl losers usually get off to a slow start and some never recover

It wouldn't be a big shock to me if they did miss the playoffs at 7-9 or 8-8

I'm hard-pressed to put Houston in the playoffs given their quarterback situation, but their defense should be able to carry them for at least a few games. I'm just not sold on Tom Savage, and we don't know what to expect from Deshaun Watson.

Houston's QB situation has never been great. They finished last year 9-7 and made the playoffs with Osweiler last year. Savage is not great or good by any means but Houston has the weapons on offense and their defense will be great again, especially with Watts coming back. I'm with you, don't know what to expect from Watson but he has a solid core around him to succeed.

Yeah..the running game sucks in Green Bay but for some reason, I think they will eventually get lucky and make it through the playoffs off of Roger's arm. They were close last year but I don't think anybody was going to stop Atlanta in the NFC last year.

Denver missed out because they had no QB. Also, it didn't help that KC and Oakland was good. Carolina missed because their o-line sucks and their defense took a major step back.

I'll say if Martavis Bryant stays out of trouble, Pittsburgh will have the best offense in the league.

Won't help them against NE though unfortunately.

There is a lot of stupid frickers in this thread who think Atlanta makes the playoffs.

Remember what happened to the 15-1 Pussycats?

It's not stupid to think they'll make the playoffs. I do think picking them as the #1 seed is extreme bias, though

If Atlanta stays healthy like they did last year...then what reason would there be for them not making the playoffs? As far as Carolina last year, it was a combination of things. Weak O-line, decline in the running game, key injuries, thin secondary, and Cam having the worst season in his NFL career.
