Novak wins this year

Agreed, though I'm a Djok fan so take it for what's worth. I kinda think that Novak's antics in Rome last week were a sign that he's locked in on the French and ready to get there and be done with all the tuneups. He was playing last week like a guy who was obligated to play but didn't have his heart in it, and his irritability stemmed from that IMO.

What we know as of now is that he and Andy as the top 2 seeds will be on opposite sides of the draw (obviously). The Rome Final was probably the best match I've seen Andy play since the 2013 Wimbledon final. He's played well on clay for the last 2 seasons now, and I won't be shocked at all if he reaches the final at the French.

With Fed's withdrawal Novak gets either Rafa or Stan in the semis (assuming favorites win out of course). Rafa's form has improved the last couple months but I don't think he's back yet. Stan has been awful the last 3 months but you never know when he'll go God-mode (see French Open 2015).

It'll be interesting to see which quarter Nishikori falls in as the 5 seed. He had a strong clay court campaign this season (as well as the last couple seasons). His biggest thing is just staying healthy which is usually his downfall in the best of 5 slam format.

Should have some very interesting round of 16 matchups this year with guys like Thiem, Monfils, and Goffin all being in good form.

Draw is released tomorrow morning. Can't wait!

I'll be shocked to see him in the final if Nadal is on his side of the draw. In form though he may be, I simply cannot envision him beating Rafael Nadal in a five set match on clay in the semifinals of Roland Garros. My simple mind is unable to imagine a reality where such an event takes place.

Djoker trying to complete the career grand slam, Rafa and Murray both in good form, and The Stanimal can beat anyone on any given day. The top 4 seeds are very strong indeed.

A couple things:
1. The Stanimal CAN go full-on GODMODE. We've seen him do that. But we've never seen him go from being in the form that he's currently into and then straight into GODMODE. In other words, imagine GODMODE as Stan's 6th gear. He was at least in 5th gear in the other instances when he's made the upswitch. We have not seen him cruising in 4th gear and then next thing ya know he's in GODMODE. And we won't see it at RG.

2. Rafa and Murray are both in fine form. I agree with that. But I don't think Rafa can beat Novak Djokovic on any surface. It's just an absolute matchup nightmare for him. Even when Rafa was still in his prime and Djokovic had made the switch from talented to great (so 2011-2013), Novak was getting the better of him a sizable chunk of the times they were playing somewhere not named Roland Garros. And while Rafa has improved his form significantly from last year, he's still not 2013 Rafa (or 2010 Rafa or 2008 Rafa, of course).

3. Maybe Murray could surprise Djoker in the final, but to get there he might just have to prevail over The Great Great Rafa Nadal in a five-setter at RG. As noted, I don't see him doing that

This thread was going fine until you brought the whole Skip Bayless act in here. The sad part is, I don't think you are actually trolling.

Complete nonsense.

Wawrinka 2015 clay losses prior to Roland Garros:
Monte Carlo - Dimitrov 6-1, 6-2 (Round of 16)
Madrid - Dimitrov 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 (Round of 16)
Rome - Federer 6-4, 6-2 (Semis)
Geneva - Delbonis 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 (Quarters)

Then he rips off 7 in a row beating Federer, Tsonga, and your golden boy in the final 3 rounds, while dropping 3 sets in the entire tourney.

So, let's see...

A) Rafa can't beat Joker on any surface
B) Murray could surprise Joker in the final
C) Don't see Murray beating Rafa
D) The Great Great Rafa Nadal

This is called multiple personality disorder.

I don't even think it's that. He's cool when I've started one. But, I never want to start it until the draw is out, and these fools always get super excited early the week before and want to chat about it -- which, is alright, especially given the Fed news. But, he has some weird OCD about calling it "unofficial." And, I think he is sandbagging on Rafa's chances so as not to be let down or something.

Do me a favor and stfu with this nonsense. I post more on tennis than anybody here. You know it. I know it. Freaking Marcellus knows it. You started this thread, but that doesn't confer upon you some kind of property rights. And let me assure you, Lee Harvey, that I will post in it when I damn well please, and that I will pay no regard to some useless shite-talking tripe like you produced in the above.

Compare those results with this year. Then get back at me with what the word "nonsense" means. Because you clearly don't know.

C) Don't see Murray beating Rafa

Huh? Were you like actively seeking a diss, couldn't really find one that worked, realized you weren't that clever and weren't likely to come up with anything that worked particularly well, and so just said "frick it" I'll be unclever but brazen?

Let's break it out for you. I'm here to help.
a) What objective indications are there that Rafael Nadal has any chance at beating Novak Djokovic? Find me the last time Rafa took a set off him.
b) I stand by this statement. And it's inconsistent with the items above or below in what way? Do tell. I eagerly await your nuanced response.
c) [insert response from item b]
d) Goddamn right. Living legend. One of the greatest competitors in any sport. Ever. Tell your friends.

For what, I don't know. But by all means follow suit. Let's make this interesting.

Maybe call a set of completely consistent statements "multiple personality disorder". Can't go wrong with that.

Monfils withdraws with a virus.

Draw is out....

Novak and Rafa same half.

Potential quarterfinals:

Djok-Berdych
Rafa-Tsonga
Stan-Raonic
Murray-Nishikori

Potential Rafa-Thiem match-up in Round of 16. Rafa could also have to play the Fog prior to that. And if he doesn't get Tsonga in the QFs it could be Goffin.

The bad news is the first round is spread out over three days, so it's a bit watered down each day. The good news is we have tennis today. Kyrgios won the first set in a breaker against some Italian dude.

So ESPN isn't covering FO at all this year? I always hated when NBC had broadcast rights. Did ESPN lose the other grand slams as well?

I think they have Wimbledon and US Open for a while, and who else is going to pick up late night Australian matches? Their coverage of the French was always terrible. They split it with Tennis Channel and NBC, but never really owned enough of the rights to properly broadcast and gives us ESPN3 for everything. Having them out for this tournament is fine, except for the fact that we will have no online coverage for people at work.
