I wouldn't be surprised if Manti Te'o finally wins again for the defensive players

Yeah, Teo has a chance at getting to NYC,especially because of the weak field. If Wisconsin drops more games, or if Baylor finishes outside the top 20, that really hurts Ball and Williams.

Teo may end up with 120 tackles and 5-7 interceptions. Definitely Heisman material.

LeVeon Bell has to be in the mix there, too.

ETA:

If Texas Tech keeps winning - Doege's star will rise as well

he already has 959 yards rushing and 10 rushing TDs

well that's surprising considering he was already talked about last year (not as a Heisman player) but RG3 made him shine, but Kendal Wright was more in the spotlight. He's already eclipsed 1000 rec yards. He's probably a first rounder next year.

McCarron is a bit of a reach. I know he leads the nation in efficiency but, when you are 97th in the in pass attempts and 75th in passing yards per game in the nation then it is a big reach to put him in there. Their offense is effective and that is why they are #1 in the nation but, McCarron doesn't deserve to be up there in the Heisman talk.

McCarron would have to have a big game against LSU, us go undefeated, and continue this crazy TD/INT rate.

It's a numbers game though, and I don't see how he'd be able to put up the numbers. There are a lot of misconceptions about our offense, he's not a "game manager," and our offensive line is kind of overrated. But we just have too many blowouts for him to put up the numbers.

He has attempted 17 passes in the fourth quarter. All year. In 7 games. Only 28 in all 7 3rd quarters.

His numbers so far: 1, 476 yards, 16 TD's and 0 INT's. Of that 1,025 yards and 13 touchdowns have come in the first half. We've actually been relatively pass-happy this year, until it's out of reach.

So yeah, I don't see it happening.

No he wouldn't. He wouldn't beat RG3, Cam, Bradford, Tebow, Reggie Bush, or Matt Leinart. That's just in the last 8 years

Through 7 games Klein would be ahead of all of them.

What about Teddy Bridgewater?

Cam and Tebow were definitely ahead of what Klein's doing right now. But the last few years have had some very strong candidates. There haven't been winners like Chris Weinke, Jason White, or Eric Crouch in a while.

And I bet Bridgewater will get some attention next season.

Yeah he would.

Cam hadn't beaten LSU yet.
Bush hadn't beaten Fresno State yet.
OU hadn't gone on the streak of 60 point games yet.
Florida was 5-2.
Baylor was 4-3.
Leinart, Smith and Ingram only won because they were perceived as the best player on the best team.

Neither Ball nor Williams will make it to NYC. Neither is the best player at their position. Ball gained 25% of his rushing yards on the year in one game against the 94th ranked rushing defense (Purdue). Williams is a damn good receiver, but 30% of his yards came against arguably the worst BCS defense in the last decade. He doesn't return any kicks and has only one carry on the year. His team is already 3-3 and even if they do somehow win out, it'd take a great performance by Nick Florence and he'd take Williams votes.

For me this is a two-man race between Klein and Smith. Klein just needs to keep doing what he has been doing and he'll win it. Smith is down obviously, but if he can recover some of his lost production and West Virginia can at least 9 games, then he'll be right back in the thick of things.

There's always the possibility that one or both of these guys falters/gets injured in which case maybe a guy like McCarron sneaks in, or maybe even Doege if they can get 9 wins, but really no one else is in the conversation for now.

Cool. Denard Robinson is averaging more rushing yards per game than him while facing better competition. The Heisman is suppose to be for the Most Outstanding Player in College Football. Braxton's had a good year running the ball. But he's nowhere near the most outstanding at his own position, much less in the nation.

I'ma go ahead and say that unless Teo gets some sacks, FF, or Brian Kelly says frick it and lets him tote the rock on the goalline or take the ball on returns, he isn't finishing in the top 5 either.

The last defensive Heisman winner was a guy who - in addition to not deserving the award at all - played in all three facets of the game: offense, defense, and special teams.
