The only real champion is the upper division 6A team in Texas

Last year, the lower division (then 4A) champ (Aledo) set the national record for most points in a season (first school to score 1,000). They could have legitimately beat a bunch of the (then 5A) schools (maybe not Allen, Southlake Carroll, or some of the powerhouses).

Yeah, Aledo is good. They are like what Lake Travis used to be

The big problem they have is not only will they lose, they may lose badly--their opponent is West Orange-Stark, one of the powerhouses in the Golden Triangle area.

West Orange-Stark will start the 3rd stringers, score on the first play and hurt somebody on Scarborough, so that the real starters can take the Scarborough cheerleaders under the bleachers for some extracurricular activity. At the cheerleaders' request.

Because good teams can't be anything but 6A...

Old 5A div 2 had some of the best state title games and teams when I was in school.

There were also plenty of years when to the two best teams in 5A didn't get to play because of the stupid division split too.

And that will continue.

Division is based on enrollment within your district. so, you end up with 'big' division schools with less enrollment than 'small' schools and vice-versa. Adding to the craziness of the system.

Even so, a team like Katy has cleaned up titles in the lower division. Without playing the real powerhouses... Allen, Trinity, and Southlake.

And even more bizarre is that the above-mentioned setup only applies to 6A, 5A, and 4A. For 3A, 2A, and A (6-man), the divisions are established prior to the season and teams are placed in separate D1 and D2 districts.

There are 10 state championships in 11 man football for the UIL. Each class has two state champions and the reason is if they went one more week it would be during Xmas holidays and Texans love football but they love Xmas more. There are roughly 250 teams in 6a. So even if you are one of the two champs you are still pretty good. Most districts have 8-9 teams in them and top 4 make playoffs. Scarborough got in because several teams in district were ineligible for postseason play

I was just informed that Texas now has 6A. Getting ridiculous.

It's not ridiculous. And the OP has fricked most of his facts up.

All Texas did was make 6-man into 1A. All other classes just moved up. What was 5A last year is now 6A. There was no further diluting of the teams or titles. The same amount of state titles are awarded.

The only reason this team made the playoffs is because they were in a 5 team district, and one school dropped athletics. Unlike Loisiana's playoff problems, UIL will fix this issue next year.

And I don't think people realize how many HS there are in Texas. And how many more are opening every year. Frisco alone will be at 10 high schools pretty soon.

And some of it is about money, but there are also a ton of good teams in Texas. If it was all about money though, UIL would go to a seeded system like other states to avoid big time first and second round matchups. I'm pretty sure the #1 and #7 teams in Texas 6A will meet in the 2nd round this year.
