Writing a business plan... any tips?

One of my old coworkers and I want to start a business, but neither of us has any startup experience. any advice would be great!

Find companies you want to emulate in your industry and search for their business plans online, or generic ones that apply to your industry. Lots of info online. I'm sure there's hundreds of books on the matter as well.

When I did what I consider to be a very half assed one back last year I started with a "macro" approach and fleshed each section of the plan out to the point of writing some clear and concise job descriptions and almost went as far as writing SOPs for each employee on how to do their job.
Use conservative numbers. You won't know the cost of every thing that is required to do business, but hopefully you can get a ball park figure in.
