2013 Hyundai Sonata with 73K miles

OR

2008 Honda Accord with 130K miles

We're good price wise either way; It's about a $2500 difference. Our dtr is getting her license soon and will be getting the brothers car and we're trying to decide what to get for him.

He likes both. WWMT do?? Any suggested sites to review issues with these models? Thanks.

Which is more expensive?

73k miles on a 2013 is a ton of miles...all interstate miles? What's the backstory here?

Sonata is more expensive. We were told that the guy used it for travel to and from work and had a truck for his weekend play.

Was at a used car lot in Lafayette. I know a family of the owner of the place so we thought we'd at least look. I've got a 2013 Honda Pilot and almost have 67K on it. Disney once, beach couple of times, 3 seasons of LSU games (roughly 90 miles one way) a shite TON of activities with my kids and now my daughter who has me all over the place with school/dance/Beta/4-H activities so I guess while the Sonata has a lot of miles, it's not much more than mine for the same model year.

eta: I totally forgot to add that the Honda had a couple of "minor accidents" with cosmetic issues only .. or so CarFax says. Plan to get the VIN to my insurance people to check it out. Sonata was clean CarFax wise but will still get it check by VIN with insurance.

I would definitely lean towards sonata if it's only 2500 more.

That's my thought as it's newer. But it's a Hyundai and the warranty doesn't carry over from the original owner. Actually I guess the warranty is perhaps up due to mileage?

Side question: There is one other Sonata we may check out here where we live. They were closed today but the info on the car stated that the warranty would be continued. If we do check this one out I'll definitely be asking about this.

How can it be YES at one place and NO at the other??

Would you buy an "extended warranty" on a used car? We've never bought used for ourselves as we keep vehicles forever and have been fortunate to "hand down" to our kids as the timing worked out right. We're NOT extended warranty people (except on my appliances as it was SUPER cheap and we've already gotten our money back in discounts on water filters for the refrigerator -- I felt the need for full disclosure here lol)

I have traded in a good running Honda with nearly 300k and I have never even seen a 300k Hyundai so there's that.. Actually take out out trucks and do a search for all 4 cyl cars in your 500 miles area. From 2008-2013.. Then sort by highest miles... I'd make some bets on this you'll see no Hyundai in top 25 cars with most miles. So you get what you pay for imo. Hyundai and Kia did a great job of changing aesthetics but cmon..

That's what my thought is. My husband wants the Honda as it is the less expensive one. He wanted to spend 5k and I was like dude no way.

My son likes both but just told me if it was his choice alone he'd want the Hyundai. I think he likes the look of it better but he's not bothered by the Honda.

To me Hondas go forever.

Thanks.

Are you opposed to leasing?

2016 Nissan Sentra or 2016 Honda Accord can often be had for $0 down and $150 to $190/month.

Idk. Never thought about it or considered it. We are hoping to pay cash for a car to last through college and "somewhat beyond" and then it's on him.

The newer Santa Fe looks attractive, but I'd check reviews first.

Honda is Honda and will last forever if taken care of.

But Hyundai has improved it's offering in recent years, so it may worth the price premium. I don't know enough from the info you have given.

I would like the Honda more than the Sonata.

I would imagine after a year or two, one could still sell/trade in the Honda for more than the Sonata.

Leasing isn`t for a teenager/ young adult in my opinion. You have to fix the stuff that gets screwed up.

why is the daughter getting the hand-me-down from the brother? why not let her get the newer car?

your son got a new car when he turned 16, and is getting another new one.

Nope. Son got my expedition when I bought a new car. In fact I held onto it for a year longer than I Wanted to as we knew who had it and it had been taken care of.

He don't get new/er and she isn't either. Plus he is commuting to school at ULL and she'll be going 10 minutes to her school and 10 back. She won't have it forever but at least to start.

Not that I should have explained any of this.

buy the honda, the miles are more in line with the year. wouldn't surprise me if a couple years from now, 2-4 years the honda has surpassed the Sonata in resale value. be very cautious on the honda if it's v6 of transmission inspection though. those v6's eat up the transmissions in honda's those years. Good thing is most people don't know that.
