Further, if you use it on overseas legs, you are most likely not going to be on United outside of your few hour domestic connection (if you even need one)
True. But last time I flew United somewhere domestically and back, 2 of the 4 flights were cancelled and 1 was delayed, with no bad weather..they also gave me a voucher for a $40 shite motel 7 miles from the airport. Pretty shameless on their part.

Fun fun (even though economy blows)
the economy only sucks for some. My last 5 years have been my best 5 years ever. By a wide margin.
And united fricking sucks. They rival AT&T for the worst service.

Can you use the BarclayCard for a certain portion of your flight? Say you had 40,000 points and your trip was $650. Use the 40,000 points and pay the remaining $150 with the card?

Yes, Barclay's allows partial redemption in $25 (2500 point) increments.

oh that does suck.
economy plus isn't bad. And the delta seating is pretty nice too.
I mainly fly united and flew delta. They gave me a bag of pretzels, I was blown away. Wait, I don't have to pay you $7 for these?

K really thinking ab getting the Barclay card. Right now the wife and I just use discover it/chase freedom. But we want a card that get help us when we travel. The 40,000 miles you would get, that can pay for airline fare to and back say aspen for a trip?

The best way to think of the Barclay card is as a "Travel Cash Back" card.
You get 2 points for every dollar you spend.
Points are worth 1 cent per piece. When you redeem, you earn 10% back. Hence, 40,000 points = $400 plus 10% point refund of 4,000 points after you redeem = $40 more dollars which can be used on a later transaction.
To redeem, you book the flight as you usually would, using the Barclay card. Once the transaction posts, you request a statement credit for that transaction on your online account. You only want to redeem for transactions that fall under the "TRAVEL" category.
So let's say you book two roundtrip tickets to Aspen for $760. You have 40,000 points. You would purchase the ticket with the Barclay card, then say you redeem 40,000 points for the transaction, taking $400 off and leaving the leftover amount of $360.

I might as well get this. Use it in place of my DL Amex and just keep my DL Amex in my pocket. Then book most travel on DL still but get point redemptions with the Barclay card.
