Have been using Turbo Tax Deluxe on-line for years. Got a e-mail yesterday stating that it is ready for 2012 tax filing and to log on and begin. Do they have a crystal ball or just plan on a work around depending on what happens with the cliff. Got a chuckle out of it.

It's rare for changes to tax law to be retroactive, no?

Tax laws for 2012 won't change. 2013 is the thing. You should be good to go.

Nope, they won't worry about it at all until TurboTax 2013.

it is ready to go - but TT will update itself like any software. SO if a law is put into place in the next couple of weeks they will update the software

not accurate

This.

The IRS said if the patch does happen next week, tax forms could be delayed until mid March. I can't imagine how turbo tax can start running returns. Maybe if you were close to paying AMT under the lower exemption amount, you would get some type of diagnostic alerting you to a problem.

I used turbo tax in the past years. Last year, I tryed H&R and also did taxes on turbo tax. H&R saved me more moneys and TT had me paying. WTF?

It may let you work on your taxes but you also may not be able to file until the final patches are in place for the software. Obviously you can't file anyway until after you've received W2s, 1099s, etc.

No, it's for 2012. If they don't pass it the IRS is going to be in trouble. Not to mention the millions of people who may now get caught by the AMT.
