"Governments don't rule the world, Goldman Sachs rules the world."

That's what a purported London-based independent trader named Alessio Rastani told the BBC on Monday in a jaw-dropping interview that quickly went viral.

Watched this last night.

It scared me a little bit. The CFA newsletter summed my feelings up well.

It is difficult to know how to take a recent BBC interview in which stock trader Alessio Rastani says he's been looking forward to the next recession so he can profit from it, according to The Economist. "Between the remarkable take on the global economy in this video and the interviewee's traderly insouciance, I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry," an Economist Free Exchange blogger writes. "Or grab a pitchfork. Or call him for investment advice."

I'm always highly suspicious of anyone billed as an "independent trader".

Why out of curiosity? Also, I don't believe his doom and gloomm scenario is going to come to fruition.

Meh. He's another guy with an opinion. Reminds me of Cramer and his "House of Paaaaain".

Per NPR this morning he is not a stockbroker, just some random guy who dabbles in the market. Everything is fine, no reason to panic.

I can't speak for JT, but the role of a trader is a support role, in my mind. They just work in orders for other people. I have no idea what independent traders would do, unless that just means he manages his own money.

Kind of like someone who always calls themselves "entrepeneur" but doesn't have an actual business.

Yeah. It's not even a real thing. Are they money managers? Investors?

Another pet peeve I have is when they do things like report on options activity and say things like "traders today are betting on XYZ". Um, no. The traders are handling the public order flow that is coming in to them and is dictating the direction of everything.

*hijack* Flask, I applied for an interview with your employer on Careers2Geaux. Will have to get your opinion on a few things at some point.

Assuming the firm doesn't trade for its own account. But, in this event, this guy just looks like a random, but I haven't done any research on his pedigree.
