I'm 38 looking at house in Tara just had a few questions?
Is this area safe?
Do you think area will remain nice?
Would you live in this area?

Thanks for your replies

I would but my wife wouldn't. I grew up in Tara. It is a great neighborhood to raise kids in. you can get a lot of house for the money. The location is good as any in town.

Little known fact: Power is on the same service lines as the water company, so if a storm hits, you're back up before anyone else.

I'd take a gamble on Tara over Prairieville, unless you have to consider schools.

where do you work? I wouldn't live in Prairieville. You're going to get a cookie cutter spec house and drive your arse off in traffic half your life.

Public schools suck. Traffic isn't too bad, but it's a little inconvenient for getting to the better private schools in the area. Should get much better once Claycut is no longer closed at Foster. It's pretty convenient to get most anywhere in town. Crime is low. Houses are kinda bland looking, imo. They caught the guy who was breaking down people's doors and murder/rape/robbing people, so that's good.

It's a pretty good neighborhood for BR, but there are a handful of better ones depending on where one is commuting to.

If you can afford private schools and your job is in BR city limits, I recommend Tara over Prarieville.

Where is your job at?

Defuq you doing looking at Prarieville or Tara!!!??? Those places are for families with kids that need to make it to soccer practice. Go look at a small 2 BR cottage in the Garden District near the LSU lakes, Downtown, Capital Heights, or the Perkins Overpass. Or, better yet, you can buy a duplex to live in one side and rent the other side for enough to pay your mortgage.

I've also heard they have a pretty good homeowners association that helps keep the trash/rental crowd at bay. This is just what I have heard, so no specifics.

I would definitely buy something in Tara over Prairieville, it is very convenient to most of BR, and will probably experience more renovations soon as younger people start to move in.

We lived in Tara about 10 years ago. Great house on Bayside ave- I wanted 10-12' ceilings. Well built house - damn thing would be paid off. We moved to Gonzales - I miss the location of Tara.

I live in Tara. It's one of the most convenient neighborhoods in Baton Rouge. Crime is almost non-existent and there are amenities that you won't find in Prairieville like mail service to your door, buried utilities that seldom fail, an active HO association, and real sidewalks. You'll get a lot of home for your buck and it's worth doing some updating on the 70s homes.

We just bought a home in Tara. It seems to be a good neighborhood. Just don't buy across the street from the High School.
