Right now, my break even is around $16. If I double up, it drops to around $13.

And when it hits $20, that's the difference in a 25% and 50% increase if I did my math right.

Yeah pretty close- it's the difference between $3.xx per share and $7.xx per share.

If you have confidence in the company, why not average down? Perhaps not today, as it seems prices may continue to dip, but aren't we all trying to buy low?

Agreed. I think most people are in agreement that SDRL is setup for the long haul. I'll price down soon just not sure when. I'll have to move some funds around I believe but shouldn't be a problem. Still very high on this one.

We just finished working on a chevron project a couple weeks at one of their deepwater fields and the chevron rep said they have 6 drill ships under contract in the gulf. He also said they plan to keep all of them under contract regardless of whether they are actually drilling or not because apparently once you lose a drillship it could take 12-15 years before you get it back. I just thought that was interesting as its about the exact opposite of the rest of the oilfield services industry right now

I have an alert set for $8.99. Not sure I will put in a buy order at that. But, I'm watching. BTW, I already own a few hundred shares.

Doing just that. I received the alert on my cell phone this morning and put in a limit buy order and will monitor the rest of the day.

Why is that? XOM and CVX are incredibly cheap right now too and in 2339830584039503459 times better spot than SDRL

While I agree XOM and CVX are great long term plays, SDRL has a much better chance of getting you 300%+ in 3 years where as that is nearly impossible from the other two.

They are totally different plays, even if they are both associated with oil and gas. I hold both.

That is true and I'm not discrediting it. I hold SDRL. My question was more in line that this is the guy's first ever stock purchase, why on earth would you want it to be a stock that incredibly risky vs one that will likely provide steady gains. As a SDRL holder, I'm not 100% convinced that they will survive. I do think the odds are they do survive, but the risk it 1204832958943 times higher than XOM/CVX.

No factual evidence behind that statement. Things aren't too pretty right now and no one knows if it will get worse or not. If say oil goes down to $30-$35 for an extended period (unlikely), SDRL is in trouble.

Like I said, no facts behind my comment; just an observation of the current environment.

As I said, I'm a SDRL owner and think the likelyhood of them not making it is slim.

I've been watching Seadrill all year and still can't convince myself to pull the trigger. Not sure they're going to get past the $4.3 billion due next year. Thoughts?
