If you think Lake Charles is insulated because people will buy more gas, you are a bigger idiot than you pretend to be on here.

its not just happening in the GOM...

BP Cuts ~300 North Sea Jobs As Part Of $1bn Restructuring Program

quote:

BP will cut 200 jobs and 100 contractor roles. Most of the cuts will be onshore. Workers at BP's North Sea headquarters in Aberdeen have reportedly been informed of the plans. BP's North Sea workforce currently numbers 3,500, with an additional 11,000 elsewhere in the UK. In December, the major announced it would accelerate its $1bn restructuring plan in the wake of the oil prince plunge.

Apache Cuts ~5% Of Workforce

quote:

Houston-based E&P Apache Corp. is laying off roughly 5% of staff this week (about 250 employees) according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The majors and oil service companies have been cutting, but this is one of the first large workforce reductions at a public independent E&P to be reported this downturn. Others are likely to follow Apache's lead.

Those obscene profits......
quote:

Apache had been profitable through the US production boom until 3Q14, when it reported a $1.24 bn loss

Eagle Ford Pioneer Lewis Energy Cuts Headcount By ~20%

quote:

San Antonio-based Lewis Energy Group did not reveal the total number of its employees, but last April at an Eagle Ford event a company representative said that Lewis's number of employees had increased from 300 to around 1,300. So today's news implies 260 jobs lost in the heart of the Eagle Ford - one of the biggest direct hits on the direct shale headcount to-date in the downturn.

Oilfield pricks out of a job but I'm saving $30 a month on gas

Did I do that right?

I laid off more people today. We cut our field personnel by 40%. This sucks. Hopefully it rebounds before long

People dont realize that we were on this same exact path in 2008-2009 when the price of oil was at $43 a bbl in Feb 2009......Lots of business were on the verge of shutting down, when BAM...BP OIL SPILL..

Macondo blowout was in April 2010, oil had rebounded nicely before then.

no i think we're more insulated b/c we're looking at huge private capital investment and the biggest of which is a go. even if some of the smaller projects fall off, there will still be tons of life in the others. these projects won't even be completed for like 5 years and they're long-term plans

we're also insulated because refining still has to occur. venezuela is still going to refine its petro at its massive citgo plant out here, also. the booms never hit here as well as laffy/houston, and teh busts never hit has hard here, either. that's the trade off

Lake Charles will be fine for all of the reasons you mentioned. All of the oilfield workers will just go work building Sasol or something if this lasts too long.
