Sleep with dogs, wake up with fleas?

The Putin regime might be authoritarian but that doesn't extend to exchange rates.

So a bunch of quasiliterate potato farmers decided to become forex traders, on margin, using their personal residences as collateral? Seems like a great idea.

Of course I'm sure they were sold some line about how Putin make rouble strong like Russian winter, we will crush these capitalist Yankee pigdogs!

Holy shite. We need a Russia in game thread.

LSURussian's step by step guide to Russian financial meltdown:

quote:

We will see some of the banks and state owned energy companies being bailed out by the government as the first step.

Then no one will want to buy RU government obligations which will spike their interest rates.

Next comes the government "delaying" payments.

Then default.

I think we're talking about months, not years.

Looks like we are bypassing Step 1. Who are major owners of RU debt?

You're welcome, but that took guts on your part to base an investment decision on comments made on an anonymous message board.

Just 20 shares. I didn't exactly bet my life savings, although now I'm wishing I had.

Also you did have, you know, evidence and logic and all that good shite.

I bought in at $15.44, to be precise

I'm hoping the MICEX takes a dive tomorrow on the rate hike. If it hits $60 I'm taking my winnings and selling.

Don't be surprised if the MICEX goes up tomorrow...at least initially. The MICEX is denominated in rubles and tonight's rate hike might strengthen the ruble temporarily. That would inversely affect RUSS which is denominated in USD.

Holy shite it's already over 60.

This is the best $300 I spent since that time I sat to the left of two drunk roughnecks at 2/5 no-limit.

Sold at $60. It might keep going up but now that the mainstream media is talking about Russia's death spiral it also might be as priced in as it will get. Anyway I can hardly complain

EDIT: Who is downvoting Russian? That bitter guy from the DOLLAR DEATH thread?

they would rush out to the closest currency exchange kiosk on the street and sell their rubles for dollars. Dollars were king.

I've seen this as well in the Middle East. I don't even carry any more riyals when I go to Saudi because they would rather take a US $1 bill for a tip than a 10 riyal note (which is usually around 3-ish USD).

Pay no attention to that. I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it.

There are few guys on Tiger Rant who resent my LSU baseball connections and posts and they follow me from board-to-board downvoting me. They've even admitted to doing it.

I get a out of it.
