So needing to update my resume for a possible opportunity coming up and just to have a updated one in general. I am in the service sector in O&G in a engineering position. The future opportunity and any other jobs I would apply to would also be in the O&G sector. Should I include projects I have worked on or just stick with basic resume info, title, duties, etc.
TIA
TIA

Use your project angagement to showcase your duties and skill set. Simply listing projects you were involved in will not help.

List a couple of projects and then explain how you were integral in making that project a success.

Tip, don't include grammar like this.
But seriously, as stated above, list the major projects you were a part of and your scope within the project as it pertains to your abilities/ skills.

Explain how you added value. Not duties.

Assuming drilling services -- people in the know will know the big name projects (e.g. Deepwater fields, big discoveries) but a lot of the onshore / smaller independents / HR type won't have a clue and graze right over that even though they're big tickets.
Instead of duties, include skills (worked in team environment under pressure, advanced knowedlge of whatever system), accomplishments (zero downtime, longest tool run in GOM, yadda yadda), mentoring young engineers

Don't list too many duties if they are mundane, but the scope of work and basin are important. Focus on numbers and value add. But keep your resume on a single page if at all possible.
Here is an example. As a caveat I do not work in unconventionals or on the service side, so just pulling stuff out of my rear end.
Sr. Stimulation Engineer - Halliburton (10/2012-8/2015)
- Designed and coordinated 376 frac jobs in the Eagleford and Bakken at a total cost of $987 MM
- Worked with client to optimize frac strategy, resulting in productivity gains of 15% while cutting proppant volumes by 38%
- Generated cost savings of $83 MM by working with field crews to optimize delivery of fresh water and proppant
- Screened clients' existing fields for refrac candidate recommendations, resulting in 45 refrac jobs at $90 MM cost and an 83% success rate

Bare minimum I would include the plays/formations/geographic areas. In my field every job posting has a bullet point like "Permian experience required." In this economy I would er on the side of including too much vs not enough.

You must be a beast if you are finding quality o&g work
Resume is probably already strong

My $0.02 cents from the people I've hired.
* keep it one page
* put the most important stuff at the top
* I never really gave 2 hoots about objective statements or cover letters
* include your top 3 projects
For example, I've been on numerous Deepwater platforms , but I typically only high light my first oil start-up experience and international experience
ETA: good luck
