I got the World Arrival card a little over a year ago for the 2% back on all purchases. It's worked well for me.

I have a Kroger card for groceries, so I don't need one there. I have a Sams Club card for gas, which gets me 5% back on gas purchases, so I'm covered there.

I'm basically looking for the most cash back/rewards card for other expenses, eating out, walmart, amazon, lowes, general shopping, etc.

I'm leaning toward the Citi Double Cash, or perhaps I should get a Chase card or two?

I've been using the Barclays for travel rewards, but with the change in their reimbursement, I want to look elsewhere. TIA.

Honest advice. .. you have too many cards.

Pick a card, use that card, pay it off each month

He has all cash back cards with no fee once he dumps the Arrival.

I see no problem with this strategy at all. In fact, he would be maximizing his return over each card category. Very smart for cash back and no annual fee.

In any event OP, if you are going all cash back with no annual fee cards, you really aren't hurting yourself getting cards that fill each niche if you don't mind tracking it. That is what Mint.com is for anyways.

But yes, I think the Citi Double Cash is superior to Arrival by far at this point with all the changes Barclay's made not to mention the amount of money you'd have to spend to overcome the fee, so that definitely should be the card you use in all non 5x bonused spend, since you will get 2% on every thing (vs 2.1% on Arrival). I actually got the card to replace Arrival+ in my card usage myself.

As for Chase Freedom, Discover It, etc, I think it comes down to what you want to keep track off really.

I have three cards I use regularly; Chase Sapphire Preferred for anything other than gas and groceries, Freedom for the catergories and the Amex Blue Cash Preferred for groceries and gas.

I forgot to mention one, I have the Delta Platinum Amex card, needed an Amex for Costco and Delta is my predominant airline, and I got 60K offer to upgrade from the Gold. I'm hoping the bag fees and companion ticket offset the $195 fee.

I'm probably not into all of the targeted spending, even though I see the advantages of it, I really just want one card to use for general spending and get the most bang for my buck.

Do they offer sign up bonuses on the Double Cash?

Blue Cash Preferred probably then since you get 6% and 3% on gas and groceries and everyone buys those.

My primary card is Delta Platinum Amex. Once I spend 25k I get 10k MQM. Then I switch to Fidelity Amex Cash back; it's 2% on everything with no limits or fees.

I'm in the same boat as you.

Barclays pissed me off with the rewards change program and I will be switching. Looking forward to the replies.

You might want to consider downgrading to the no fee version instead of cancelling. It's basically the only card you can get stateside that has chip and pin tech.

I'm gonna get a sapphire preferred soon and dump my arrival

I currently rotate a blue cash preferred and citi forward for other categories, as well as a SW rapid rewards visa

Excellent point.

Still don't understand what all the other premium card makers are doing on that front

What changes has Barclay made?

Redemption rate effectively falls to 2.1% from 2.2% as reemptions now only kick back 5% of redeemed points instead of 10%. Minimum points to redeem has also been raised.

Tripit Pro subscriptions removed, etc. That used to justify $89 fee.

Other cards such as Citi Double Cash earning 2% and no fee. Therefore, you'd have to spend thousands of dollars to offset the fee vs a fee free cash back card at 2%.

I say the Barclay card is still worth getting just for the bonus and then downgrading to the no fee version to keep chip and pin capability for going overseas, but that's it.
