I guess it depends on the individual but in my book Insurance Agents are in the same boat as used car salesmen.

ETA: I give it a 4

Commercial Insurance Producer for a large agency

Is the potential employer a broker or an agency? I ask because some of the larger insurance brokerage companies call their sales teams producers. In my experience, which is only with the high level producers, they are generally good looking, smart, and personable. Lots of wining and dining is involved. Lunches, dinners, games, etc. For the single guys, it's usually pretty fun. For the married types, might get old after a while. The industry is very competitive though. It's produce or perish.

This opportunity is with a lager agency. Most of them this size, including the opportunities I have, have been bought out by large banks. I am thinking of switching careers and getting into this commercial insurance as a producer.

Well, that might be a little different that the mega-brokers that I have dealt with. My comments probably don't apply. Sorry, bro, but good luck anyway.

I interned at a commercial insurance brokerage in atl and all the brokers were young single guys, they drank in the office, played pool, etc. But I don't know if that is the same thing you are talking about... But if it is they seemed to Really like what they did.
