If you are only seeing $1,000 off then I don't think you have a clue on how to shop for a vehicle. Just go buy a new one.

I can't help with the pricing, but for a car I would suggest a Honda Pilot.

I have a Murano 06 model and it drives like the day I drove it off the lot. Good crossover for a small family.

Are you looking at the listed prices or the actual market value?

Something that could come into play is certified pre-owned. Some manufacturers give better warranties on CPO cars than they do for brand new. Honda is one.

I just do not see much value in 2 to 3 year older cars relating to a newer one. Ill keep looking, but thanks for the reply.

This is one area, where I think sometimes people can get too hung up on conventional financial wisdom.

In a lot of cases, there are valid financial arguments for getting the new car over the used one.

for a possible family addition and it seems like I am only getting a 1000 dollar difference (if that) between new and used with most of the warranty eaten up already

Where are you shopping if I may ask?

The only one I can think of is that you are the owner of a business and provide yourself with a company car as a company pretax expense. Give me two more so I can think about it. Thanks.

Get a Nissan 350Z and put the baby in the trunk.
It's got carpeting back there.

This. Buying used American brand cars usually works out but smaller SUVs and imports can be a trap. It used to be a car sticker only varied a few thousand dollars based on options. Not so anymore. We bought a Ford Taurus and the stickers ranged from $26k to $51k.

I know the financially correct thing to do buying a vehicle is 2-3 yrs old low miles. With that said the misses and I will be looking at a small SUV (Rav, CRV, Murano) for a possible family addition and it seems like I am only getting a 1000 dollar difference (if that) between new and used with most of the warranty eaten up already. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or had been through the same dilemma.

TIA

With trucks and SUV's I have found that often you can get a new one for the same to small difference in buying a used one. Trucks and SUV's have been what is in demand so that is why there isn't the huge disparity. With all the rebates and discounts I would probably look at New first, decide what you want to buy then research btwn new and used and don't limit yourself to buying locally. You can get better prices in larger cities.
