Used trucks have high markup. Go to nadaguide.com, put in all the options. Take the wholesale price for yours, trade in price for theirs and find the difference. I wouldn't flinch off those numbers but by 500$ or so.

I agree with you in terms of wanting the best deal possible...but you're asking retail price for your trade in. They can give you retail price, but they can also sell the truck you want for retail price.

What kind of price could you do on an Accord Sport or EX sedan?

Well, of course. I want 100k for mine and 10k for theirs. And I know that their truck is a really good deal, I just dont want to give my shite away. I truly wish that I had time to sell mine outright.

I just did the trade in thing on auto trader. If it works how I think it works, they either email blast it out or something to local dealers. I am supposed to get an email back with the highest offer within 24 hours.

Carmax will give you a value in 30 minutes. It's definitely worth a shot.

Over the Internet or in person? On phone now so it's easier to ask than look up.

In person.

Same for other places too. You're not going to get their best value without them seeing it in person. They have to assume that you're exaggerating how good of condition it is, because people usually do that.

Do they do the same with a used vehicle?

No, the dealerships own the used vehicles, the mfgs own the new ones. When I was in sales, we would trade across state lines no problem, but each trade is at the discretion of the mgr, so they wont always trade.

That makes perfect sense.

He just countered with $10,500 difference. I'm going go squeeze every last drop out of this and final offer 10k and a tank of gas.

I asked him what the total on taxes and license would be. He texted me back 4k and some change. I should only be taxed on the difference that I pay, the 10k. So, if I register it up there, 4k. If I register it down here, 1k?

Anybody?

Who are you talking about? The dealership in OKC?

What address would you use to register it up there?

Also, like I said earlier, I'm pretty positive you won't get the tax credit if you trade in up there and register in La.

Sorry for the late response. I talked to another dealer in LA and he stated that if I did register in LA, I'd get the tax credit. This was later confirmed by the okc dealer.

Sell your truck on craigslist for what it's actually worth. I've had a few good experiences buying & selling vehicles through craigslist.
